And don't forget the true original: catprin! Read the captions for each costume. Trust me.

Sweet fancy moses. The rice krispy treat kitty nearly killed me.

This is definitely awesome. I want a scuba dog and an ewok.

Though I was initially worried because I misread it as "taxidermy", not "taxonomy". What a pleasant surprise to find that Cute Overload hasn't gotten that gruesome yet.

I really wanted to hate this until I saw the turtle. The turtle makes me ridiculously happy and now I want to go out immediately and get a turtle of my very own to dress up in fancy costumes like that.

THe simple spotted-cow dog made me chuckle. The headless horseman was *amazing*.

Alright, that's it. I'm going out and getting our cat a costume! (here's hopin' I can get it on him without losing an eye...)

Great post. The rice krispies treat cat, headless horseman and dog-eating gator rocked. Then I went to catprin, read the captions and my head asploded.

BTW, my cat actually won a costume this Halloween, and won a collar in a separate contest.

No, she's not one of those silly show cats all fluffed up and pimped out, she's just a short haired black cat we rescued from the shelter who got lucky in a couple contests (Don't you love these rags-to-riches stories?).

Anyway, she won angel wings and a pink collar with black skulls. I don't have the collar yet, but maybe I'll hunt her down and see if I can get those white angel wings on my black kitty for a picture.

I want to hate people who dress their pets up, but these are just so great (The TURTLE!). Plus, unless it's limiting mobility, I don't dogs care what you put on them. The canine thought process seems to go "And then this happened and then this happened and then we RAN! and then I got a TREAT! and then this happened and then bed." They are quite beyond shame, thank you very much.

Yeah, I bet the English skills of the owners of that site have improved since it first went live all those years ago, but they just keep the original copy because it's so... perfect. It's like poetry.

omg omg A yard of non-stop laughter. You made my day. Thanks for that. Wonderful. Those are amazing!

Yes, the turtle! But I love the lion-dog.
AWW, the Ewok face! Each one sillier than the last.

oh no! The cow-dog?

So much fun. On this gloomy pre-winter day in NYC, thanks for the sunshine.

I particularly liked the crocodile eating dog, but I'll admit that the turtle was pretty brilliant as well.

They did miss one kind of costume category though; The one for discipline.

My Cattle dog is a bundle of pointy, barky misdirected energy, and we've discovered only one thing that will instantly cut the wind from her sails and make her lay meekly on the floor looking at us like we are histories worst monsters; we just have to put clothes on her. A doggy t-shirt, or whatever and she is instantly compliant.

The only problem is, that energy doesn't actually go away, it's being stored up, and the moment you remove the shirt, you are screwed.

It'd be funny if it didn't lead to so much yelling and stuff getting knocked over.

I'm glad I came back to this. When I saw it this morning before my caffiene, I saw "The taxonomy of the consumed pet". And I thought, well, it is almost Halloween. And this is Metafilter. It's either going to be deleted or fantastic.

And after today, I sure needed the laffs. Thanks!

Some dogs. the first time we took the family dog to be groomed when I was a kid, he got sent home with a little ribbon tied around his neck, and as soon as he got home, he started scratching the hell out of it. Within only five minutes, he had not only removed it, he had eaten it.

Which lead to an interesting predicament the following morning.

I was just about to say the same thing. I have always been a little opposed to dressing up animals but every time I try to get upset about it someone dose this and then I give in.

I don't remember a fpp where I had such low expectations that were so delightfully violated. Ha!

That being said, that "wine tasting" cat looks incredibly aggrieved. Even for a cat in a box.
