Sometimes I just want to buy them for the packaging

Eric Skillman, art director / designer of many of Criterion's DVD packages, has a design process blog. There, he often discusses his work for the company.
I love this. I've spent the last two hours going through the archives and drooling over the art. The post about the collaboration on the cover for Robinson Crusoe on Mars is awesome. It's really nice to see the stages from blank page to finished product and the small decisions that get made along the way to get these gorgeous covers.

Shoot. Skillman's good, but I was hoping this was going to be about the person who did the incredible WR: Mysteries of the Organism cover [slightly NSFW].

It just occured to me that "Graphic Designers For John McCain" would be a pretty lonely facebook group.

I was just reading about one. He had fun re-imagining the official government website after Obama is elected.
