Clippy!

Ok, first SLYT that I found worth watching.

Meh, I laughed 3 times:
1. The paperclip
2. The closet
3. As soon as it started talking about being slow, youtube had to buffer the video I was watching.

Other than that, standard CollegeHumor vid.

Thanks!

I must admit I was a bit bored until the paper clip scene.

I kept thinking, "If the Matrix ran on XP, it would have never taken over the world." Of course, if it ran on a Mac we'd all be happier.

When I was about fifteen I thought that movie was really, really cool.

But that was when I was about fifteen.

there needs to be an "eh, kinda weak sauce" flag.

the sequels kind of marred the first, but it was decent enough.
you know, like Star Wars.

I, too, stopped before it finished. (like SNL skits, didn't know when to end)

I thought it was well done, though. I mean, I laughed.
I also thought it better than most I've seen on CH.

As with the original Matrix the best scenes were at Oracle's place.

SheMulp AKA Plus 1:

I liked it.

Maybe a bit meatier if you'd linked to crap about the Matrix, but I just wanted the punchline, so I was happy.

What, no matrix-xp link?

Oh, and the (english) youtube version.

I'm using this as an excuse to post the following again, because the link to it on metafilter doesn't work anymore.

Best movie/skit/mashup ever:

The Big Charade

The following is not meant to be snarky, I'm trying to offer an honest criticism of the post:

Is this SLYT video something that would not normally be found by the average Mefite?

CollegeHumor videos get linked in lots of places. Not all Mefites follow Digg, Reddit, Fark, etc, but CH videos get linked on all of those places as well as lesser known aggregators. In my experience, CH videos are sent to me more often than from any similar source (ebaums, etc) through social networks, email, IM, and word of mouth.

Is this SLYT video particularly relevant to a news story or to a subject that could provide some amount of meaningful discussion on MeFi (and that doesn't already have a post in which the video could be a comment)?

It's a parody of the Matrix and Windows XP. The possibility for discussion certainly exists, but it would more readily come from a national geographic clip or something with a bit more substance.

Is this SLYT video just so clever, so funny, or so heartwarming that it would give Mefites a nice break from the heavier content found on MeFi?

Tastes certainly differ and it is ultimately the poster's call as to whether a video fits into this category. Again, however, this is a parody about the Matrix and Windows XP. We certainly aren't treading any new ground, years after each came out. Moreover, these jokes aren't anything we haven't heard before: Windows crashes! Neo sounds spaced out! Long loading times! BSOD!

CollegeHumor isn't really known for treading new ground or for any extra spark that raises it's videos above most other parodies. It is narrowminded to say that no CH video should ever be a SLYT post, but I would wait until they do something truly special before I called the video to everyone's attention. I say this because MeFi is a bit different from Digg, Fark, and Reddit. While those are a great free-for-all that can be lots of fun, Metafilter is... well, a filter.

Again, I don't want to sound snarky or mean. Please be a bit more picky about your choice of SLYT videos.

"any extra spark that raises it's videos"

heheh and there's that grocer's apostrophe! I guess I could use an extra spark to raise my punctuation.

grimp, you've been here for just a few months and have never made a fpp? I think probably you should lighten up.

I was waiting for that. I actually lurked a year before I signed up. I do plan to make a fpp soon so I can have a chance to take it instead of just dishing it out. It may be that I get hit with the same CH video from so many different sources that it annoys me more than most people.

I don't get the college humor hate, they're usually pretty clever and well made, especially for being free videos by an internet website. At the very least this looked awesome. Interesting that only a few years after the actual movie seemed like it had impossibly good FX a parody can ape them on no budget.

Grimp, I'd be interested to read a similar analysis on this plate of beans right here.

The irony about the implied Apple-love here is that the the total seamlessness of virtual reality - the fact that everything is easy, intuitive, and you never really see what is going on behind the scenes - is precisely what makes the Matrix frightening. The agents would certainly prefer nice, stable Mac platforms, all the better to enslave us with.
