Holy shit! I'm not the only Vapors fan on MeFi!

Hmm, did you know they were showing Escape from Jonestown on CNN right now or is metafilter trying to tell me something?

The 30th anniversary of the massacre is this coming Tuesday.

Holy crap Jackie Speers lay on an anthill for 22 hours after being shot 5 times?
That's hardcore.

available light, you say that like we and all are friends are having flavor aid parties on Tuesday.

But seriously, this is crushing. Their own daughter is pretty clearly... well, it would be awful to know that about your own.

The suitcase-finding story sounds a little fishy, though. If they looked, and didn't find it, I want to know more about how the handyman did find it.

So do I but all I can manage is a bunch of mispelled Me-fi poasts.

Oh man Soledad O'Brien just said: "Coming up, 30 years of unrelenting pain." Can she see me through the TV?

scody - good stuff, but I'm favoriting it for the killer Vapors reference in the title. Now I'll hold out for a "Sixty Second Interval" titled post about nuclear war.

heh, I almost didn't use the Vapors quote because I thought it might be in bad taste.

*gets to work on "Sixty Second Interval" post*

I'm guessing that many MetaFilterians weren't even born when the Jonestown horror happened. A native San Franciscan, I was 33 and will never forget that horrible November: first the news about 900+ people's deaths, then the assassinations of George Moscone and Harvey Milk.

The MSNBC mini-doc that aired last Sunday is filled w/ interviews from the group that came to investigate the People's Temple (and precipitated the mass suicide). Their story of trying to leave is harrowing.

Internet Archive has some audio that you may or may not want to listen to ...
