I will not be able to add anything rational to the discussion here, because just thinking about Five Million Years to Earth (Quatermass and the Pit) freaks me the hell out, and sends me running toward some thread about puppies, screaming incoherently and shaking my hands off as if they were covered in something wet and sticky. So. Thanks!

Ace post.
The Year of the Sex Olympics is my favourite telly programme of all time. If I have a son, he will be called Kin Hodder.
And I might have to see about getting some episodes of Beasts up on Youtube - the one about the ghost dolphin and the porn cinema is probably the strangest thing ever to appear on the telly. Unless you count the one about the centuries-old hybrid foetus entombed in a farmhouse wall, and its unspeakable wet nurse. Caw! Caw!

All of the Beasts were total freak-out weird and great. On the DVD is one-off play Murrain, about a old woman who may or may not be a witch. That was pretty damn disturbing.

Yeah, that's a very odd one too. I have trouble telling how odd, as me and my friends had a habit of watching ...Sex Olympics whenever we did mushrooms, twice in a row sometimes, and so when someone bought the Beasts set we just thought 'Oh right, Nigel Kneale, mushroom time'. This was, on reflection, a grave error.

Love this shit.
My nick was originally supposed to be Quatermass, but I spelled it wrong and then it was too late.

Mark Gatiss spoke at the Mayhem Horror Festival here in Nottingham at the beginning of the month, and showed a few clips from shows and movies that terrified him as a child.
One of those clips was the end of "Baby", that fetus episode of Beasts. With the wet nurse.
And I had a horrible time focusing on what he was saying after the clip, because my brain was going "What...What the fuck was that?"
And now that you've reminded me of that scene, my brain's still doing that.
So I'm planning on going home in the dark wind-swept night, turning on my computer, and, in the unearthly glow of the monitor, watching all these clips.
(Also, speaking of Mark Gatiss - Crooked House on BBC4 this Christmas... yay!)

I love Metafilter because of posts like this. I just watched The Quatermass Experiment, Quatermass and the Pit, and The Stone Tapes in a marathon viewing. Thank you, fearfulsymmetry!
