Change my ass... For months on the campaign trail, Barack Obama promised to bring change to Washington. But now that he's president-elect, his first potential Cabinet picks indicate that he may bring more years of Washington experience to his administration than Bill Clinton or George W. Bush did.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Surely there is coverage of the transition available that is better and more meaty than two short articles, and a better way to present it. -- cortex

Is this the first "obama sucks" fpp since the election? Who had 16 days in the pool?

I flagged this as a "display" error but unless that first link is really dynamite what I mean is "the problem with this post is that I can see it."

Because Washington experience has been objectively proven to be a bad thing, right? We're supposed to bring in people who donate to our campaigns and lobby for the insurance and weapons industry, right?

Change my ass...

Certainly. Step over here a moment.

Because it isn't real change unless it's done with an inexperienced staff! How can experienced people ever change anything?

Yes, the centrist / DLC / usual suspects stuff is disappointing.

And it's interesting that Fox has now decided that being first lady counts as Washington experience after all.

Obama's still in charge of everyone in his administration.

And if you can find me a Democrat with White House experience who didn't work under Clinton, I'll show you an 85-year-old retiree.

This post will likely get deleted, but I'll go ahead and bite.

"Change" does not mean "bring in random people whose primary qualification is not having any Washington experience." It means choose people according to their competence and credentials for the job at hand, not according to their personal loyalty to you (see: Alberto Gonzalez and Harriet Miers), ideological litmus test (see: state attorneys general), or previous experience as lobbyists for the industries they are supposed to be regulating (see: too many to name).

For what it's worth, an experienced team doesn't mean there won't be change. Just look at the current administration; Bush's experienced team brought a great deal of change to the US and our legal system, our military, our economy, and our image abroad.
