Can we have a list of all celebrity twitter feeds and be done with it? Here's a list of "minor" celebrities, and a few big-time folks, and another list.

I mean knowing how to use Twitter but not Wikipedia (or Google) -- that's epic lulz in my book.

Maybe this is because I'm an asshole.

Since I'm 57 and I enjoy reading Twitter pages (one way to have desultory conversations with my daughter--other ways are text messaging, Facebook, and livejournal), I'm guessing you must be either pretty young or reeeeal old.

Look, I know I've been down on Twitter in the past, but now that I'm receiving instant notification whenever Stephen Fry has a shower, I'm completely sold on it.

Since every thread that involves twitter has someone eventually saying they're too cool for twitter I'd say it just makes you boring and unimaginative.

And yes, old.

I think the best part of his twitter is definitely the inspirational "Shaq quotes" that are just things other people said that he has essentially plagiarized in really bizarrely adorable ways.

My genius is 1 percent inspiration 99 percent perspiration Shaquille o'neal

I like having a quick easy way to launch my random thoughts into cyberspace. However, I fail in terms of finding a good way of catching up on reading other people's feeds. (Suggestions on making this less of a one-way exchange are welcome)

I got curious about the Twitter thing after seeing a ton of on-the-fly activism being planned in quick bursts of succinct sentences.

After hanging out with it for a few months and using it just enough to understand I'll mostly be a passerby in Twitterland, it does function as a logging tool for some people, so could be a blog in that sense.

Mostly, though, I see people using it as a party line, backyard fence, comfy spot on the stoop...a place to have the exchanges of tiny inspirations, declarations, complaints, lies, and mundane happenings that few experience out in their own neighbourhood anymore.

posted by like_neon at 3:07 AM on December 4, 2008

This is interesting, in that it's as boring as every other stranger's Twitter feed (my own included, of course).

At least Stephen Fry puts in some effort to make his Twitter stream genuinely interesting by sharing pictures of amazing lemurs he met while making a documentary, or writing capsule reviews of gadgets he's been sent.

Also, I really wish the fake Tony Benn on Twitter had been real.

I find it ironic that in any thread about Twitter, people always pop in to post a pithy one-liner alerting random strangers on the internet to the fact that they think Twitter is crap, whether or not anyone actually cares to hear their opinion.

I am not a 20something hipster, but I am the kind of person who gives most social-media things a go. I didn't get Friendster, I didn't get Orkut. I don't get MySpace (only use it to stay in touch with my younger sister) and I don't get Facebook either.

I didn't get Twitter at first either. Now I do. On a selfish level it's a way of dumping out all the little bits of fluff floating around in my head so I can move on to other things. (Also a place links to LOLCats or whatever too, admittedly.) It's interesting reading the fluff in other people's minds too.

It's also a great way to get a stream of consciousness about a particular subject or event from strangers. Following the Mumbai twitters was horrifying and mesmerizing at the same time.

It's cut down on my personal blogging a lot. The only time I feel like blogging on my personal site these days is...well, barely ever, unless I have something I want to get into some depth on.

Anyway, I follow both @stephenfry and @THE_REAL_SHAQ and I enjoy them both, because they're just being themselves and they can occasionally be funny, deep, whatever. (I think THE_REAL_SHAQ is the deeper philosopher, actually, but that may just be 'cos I disliked the shallowness of Stephen Fry's America so much.)
