Anastasia Dobromyslova - 'From Russia With Love' - the women's world darts champion, will compete with the men at this month's World Championship. Some people are not happy about this.

"Some people are not happy about this."

Unless she shoots the darts out of her cooch, fuck 'em.

She's quite clearly lacking the real-ale based abdominal stabiliser required for true professional darts competition.

Real ale drunk from proper pint glasses, mind.

For some "sports" the sex of the player probably doesn't affect performance, or women will be better than men once higher levels of participation and earlier initial participation occur. People shouldn't whine.

Either Eric Bristow is an angry man (possibly due to being the former world champ), or women dart-throwers* are very violent folk.
"I don't think she's that good to be honest. People are saying she's the best woman player ever but Maureen [Flowers] would have killed her, Deta Hedman would have murdered her and Trina Gulliver has been a great ambassador." (bolded for emphasis)
I'm not sure how being an ambassador fits in, except they don't seem like the competitive type, and I don't imagine women really need a liaison into the men's league.

* What is the proper term for people who throw darts professionally? Darter is a type of bird, and "dart-thrower" sounds ... not so impressive. Of course, I'd change my mind if I ever had to throw darts to save my life.

So, when someone eventually changes their stance on this controversial issue, will they be deemed to have performed a complete One Hundred and Eighty?

She uses the song "Girls" by Sugababes as her walk-on music.

Do all the players have walk-on music? If you refuse to pick a song, will you be assigned one?

Oh yes...

Worth reading the article people. She didn't qualify, she was invited because she is the current women's world champ. Meanwhile the woman who won the previous 7 world titles never received an invitation. It's perhaps unfair to suggest that that is because the previous champ wasn't a 25 year old blonde.

He means Gulliver gets diplomatic immunity for whatever it was she did.

I watched fearfulsymmetry's link and can only assume Scotland's got nothing going on. Dreadful. Where I come from, darts is what you do when there is absolutely nothing else to do. Hell, even then we rarely do it.

I could only take half the video but darts looks like a "sport" for pasty fat white guys only. Whoda thunk?

Northern pasty fat white guys. What of it?

Northern pasty fat white guys.

Did the Crafty Cockney suffer dartitis for nothing?! And there is the odd oriental and skinny Dutchman...

Scotland's got nothing going on

There's a sad story there...

Flagged for the sexist title.

It's ironic!

Not always. I've seen Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life".

I'm sure it's not THE sexiest title.

Fearfulsymmetry's link made my week. I can't recall the last time I saw anything so massively, marvelously absurd as a those guys plus that "sport" plus those songs. I'm in love.

In the decade before satellite TV, when darts drew viewing audiences of more than eight million and before Wilson's regular drink intake - lager chased by 'seven or eight vodkas to keep my nerves so that I can play my best' - had taken its grip, it was a very different story. The game that enjoyed its peak in 1988, when there were 11 televised tournaments, had Wilson as its undoubted star. In a world cluttered with double chins, receding hairlines and straining nylon shirts, John Thomas Wilson still managed to stand out.
i've got the power, indeed...

The complaint seems to be that the year they invite a woman to compete with the men happens to be the first time in eight years that a British woman wasn't rated as the highest woman player.

It sounds more like a Britian vs Russian thing than a man vs woman thing.
