As usual, checking the tags would have helped me figure this out a whole lot faster.

I served with Sir William Ormerod; I knew Sir William Ormerod; Sir William Ormerod was a friend of mine, and YOU, sir, are no Sir William Ormerod.

It was difficult to know what to make of this post. Now that I am through that difficulty, I will try to come to know what to make of what I know that I made of this post.

I don't quite get Victoria Coren's complaint. If you're worried about gatecrashers, you don't "spread the word" and allow people you've never heard of to effectively self-invite by soliciting their own invitation.

"Molecular engineer" is pushing it a bit, though the deleted Wikipedia entry was interesting: "unmarried, but many friendships from his acting days lasted until the end of his life." You don't say?

He stole that quote from Braveheart.

Doesn't say much for selection procedures for magistrates.

Heh! Good times. He will be missed. It must be noted though, that his honorary citizenship of Neutral Moresnet was revoked when his 'witch' bluff was called (although the answer remains a mystery).

Mr. Gunn, that link was supposed to go to a copy of the now-deleted wikipedia article for Sir William. I couldn't find any copy of it.

What a delightful story. I used to have a great crush on Vicky (if I may) when she played poker on TV. I loved Alan Coren's Punch articles as a kid.
