Punkcast

Punkcast is a long running series of videos of live underground music in NYC shot by Joly MacFie. Each video is usually one song. The Internet Archive hosts its videos and offers downloads in a variety of formats. MacFie also has a YouTube channel with 480 videos and a video podcast [iTunes link, feedburner link]. Here are a few bands that caught my fancy: The Icicles and The Besties, The Slits (1, 2 ), Andrew W. K., Oneida (1, 2), The Long Blondes, The Gossip, Acid Mothers Temple & Cosmic Inferno, Art Brut, Be Your Own Pet, Cansei de Ser Sexy, Lesbians on Ecstasy, The Fall, Fred Frith, Rose Melberg and Jennifer O'Connor, The Horrors, The Homosexuals, Bat for Lashes, Radio 4 and Teddybears, Kimya Dawson and Tiny Masters of Today, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Nikki Sudden.

I think the Nikki Sudden videos may have come from his last ever show.

I read part of this as "Rose Melberg and Jennifer Connelly" at first, and had to do a quick headshake.

I was at a World/Inferno show this guy shot at Tribeca (the club). It was packed, there was a lot of danger of getting crushed, and he wasn't wearing shoes. Strange guy, but he seems to do a lot for the scene, or a scene, at least.

Cool site! Though, I don't really think it's underground stuff, most of these bands are pretty well established, but I do love people doing this.

Why doesn't he come to my shows!? :-D Well, he clearly likes stuff a little straighter than I do, but still! Perhaps I can bribe him with drugs or alcohol??

Yeah, I went back and forth as to which adjective to use for the music he covered. In the end it came down to alternative versus underground and the latter seemed less hokey. And some of the artists he's taped are damn obscure.

This guy is a total weirdo pain in the ass, but I love what he's done. I was forever trying to get him to video my band at the time because he was obsessed with the other band my bass player at the time was in (Live Girls punkcast #388, great band).

Didn't like me, or us, or something. And one time, he dropped 20 bucks on the ground without noticing. So, being the good guy I am, I picked it up and handed it to him. He took it without saying a word to me and turned away.

Well, I tried to never hold it against him because I love what he does, all at his own expense, I should add. Still, what a weirdo.

Oh man! I totally thought I had included Dufus in the list in the FPP. Dufus are great. There's more Dufus here, here and here.
