If you've ever wanted your first-person shooter to feel a little less real, NPRQuake may be just what you need. The blueprint and brushstroke versions are nice, but for my money you can't beat sketchy Quake. Unfortunately, the NPR in the name stands for Non-Photorealistic Rendering, not that other NPR, so don't expect Robert Siegel or Linda Wertheimer skins any time soon. (via

Along the same lines is Pencil Whipped, Old Man Murray's 2000 Game of the Year (which actually looks like it has the edge in overall arty execution). I've been having connection problems with long downloads so I haven't tried it yet. (I miss my Sportster. 52K+ every time!)

Though the name NPRQuake does tend to suggest some ideas along the line of the SNL sketch, The Delicious Dish.

Hello, I'm Margaret Jo McCullen.
And I'm Terry Rialto.
Welcome to Delicious Dish, and prepare to get your ass-whipped with our notorious rocket-launcher M4D SKi77S!

Somebody on Slashdot made a joke I really liked - something about a mod of this called NPR vs. PRI FORTRESS.

Looks like playing Quake in the A-Ha "Take on Me" video. It would be pretty cool to try but I don't know if I could play that all the time.

Wonder if they're gonna make a Fido Dido skin to accompany it?
