Eight seconds. Only because I spent six and a half of them trying to bang on the escape key with my eyes closed to block out the horror.

Thanks for posting Leslie Hall. She's a genius. A total freakin' genius. Mike D, it's okay, she won't hurt you.

There was a time when talented weirdos like Leslie were shunted into late-night television spots or made into figures of fun on beer commercials, where they would eventually become a trivia question nobody knows the answer to. I'm curious about what the future holds for this one; I hope we don't just throw her away like we do all the other really interesting and amusing people who make a public splash now and then.

Astro Zombie,

I actually listened to a lot of her other stuff today. Good stuff.

If you can, go see her live. That's what sold me.

if she comes through Atlanta, I'll be the first in line.

I like Leslie Hall in abstract but don't really enjoy her actual stuff when I see it.

And I constantly expect her to break into some explanation of what movie will be screening that night on the Satellite of Love.

Is this Gem Sweater? Christmas has never been the same since she appeared.

I live in Ames where she shot that video, and I've been trying to figure out the locations ever since I first saw it a few months back. I think the dance floor is in the Maintenance Shop, a concert space in the Iowa State Memorial Union. I think the clothing store is the local Salvation Army. But I cannot figure out where the video store is. I think I have a guess (the one on Lincoln Way near Duff Ave?) but I have never been in there. Anyways, I obsess. Her website is also very weird.

Also I have a very weird feeling that her fly girls have served me coffee at the cafe in the Design building. However, I think I am just profiling your typical Design Cafe student worker, who is much more likely than your average person to have weird glasses and an ironic 80's hairdo.

"talented weirdos like Leslie"

We are all weirdos, my dear.

That. Was. AWESOME!

(and gave me Marg, Princess Warrior flashbacks)

Not all talented, though.

I don't get it. Does this person do something else that makes her interesting? Because this video isn't interesting. Like at all.

The only thing I like about this is that she has gold metroids on her shoulders.

But I like that a lot.

Is this something you need to live in a flyover state to understand?

Oh Leslie, I love you.

I would have liked this better if I hadn't had the false expectation of a club song that actually involved scrapbooking every moment of the wild and raucous evening. Because my mind went awesome with that concept...little foam cutouts of bootyshaking, with sticker letters that spell out "in tha club!", and rhinestone bling borders.

I guess Gem Sweater made up for the disappointment I felt at the lack of scrapbooking, so thanks.

from her myspace profile: "LINE THE PAN WITH CRISCO WHEN I DANCE THIS DISCO."

come on! who can't love her?!?

some of you people are pigeons. hmmf. really.

You know, I continue to think whenever I see her, "If this girl can make a career for herself, with big hair and gem sweaters and all that stretchy gold, and not being anorexic, and wearing glasses...anyone can."

Thanks for the inspiration, Leslie Hall.

Best of the web! Personally I think the "Blame the Booty" remix on her myspace is superior to the linked song but I'll take delicious Leslie jams any way I can get them. My "Zombie Killer" tee (scroll all the way to the bottom) was commandeered by my boyfriend the moment it arrived in a big gold envelope.

For more Leslie:
NPR did a story on her . You can listen as she christens audience members' gem sweaters. She was also on Yo Gabba Gabba, as a "dancey dance" friend. This is my favorite Flickr set of photos of her, but there are many, many cool pictures and fan art on Flickr.

At first i did not enjoy this.

Then I watched it again, and found myself thinking it was awesome.

I favorited redsparkler's comment but I want to emphasize that I still think this was awesome. Just not as awesome as the described nite-out-turned-scrapbooking-event.

But I mean really you cannot deny those octopus shoulderpads.

I recognized the M-Shop, and I think the Video Store might be That's Entertainment on Lincoln Way, which is notable for its huge porn collection.

I was lucky to see them AND get on stage a couple of years ago. AND she talked to us before the show!!! Yeah, I'm nerdy but it doesn't any less exciting for me. :)
