My Favourite Babe, 2002 (compatible with Netscape's 1994 1.0 browser) (800 x 600)

A web project about human evolution, Amphibians and Pamela Anderson 'My Favourite Babe' depicts the ultimate cybernetic and digitised body of our times: Pamela Anderson. The project explores the extremes of human evolutionary discourse and finds its starting point in the modified and digitised body of Pamela Anderson and her character of CJ Parker from the TV series Baywatch, as a surf lifesaver, mutant information amphibian and DNA of the internet.

Quite.

I'd been kind of wanting a copy of this gif from the internet old days. Note messed up alpha on some of the pixels, giving the ball these sort of 'tails'.

I actually remember using it on some web pages. Good times.

Appears to have about 30 pages (unless there's some hidden links or something)... all pretty much the same, I'm kinda wondering if this is fake-crazy

I'm going to go ahead and be pedantic enough to point out that the <div> tag didn't exist when Netscape 1 was around. Neither did "align".

If you're gonna do a parody of old-school web, use <font> and <center> and most of all <blink>!

Also needs the conquestofbatshitinsane tag that is used so infrequently in these less... civilized days.

ook! slow down!
i think you're taking the bland post-ballardian influenced suburban art of ian haig far too seriously.

So many pearls of wisdom here. Like: "water (made up of information) moves arounnd the body & through the PORES!"

I mean, who could argue with that? You'd have to be waaaaaay beneath the valley of the ultra-batshitinsanes to argue with THAT.

posted by heyho at 9:26 PM on January 17, 2009

Yeah, something about it struck me as fake crazy/viral for some reason too.

Crazy people have a message, even if its incoherent, like the inimitable Time Cube. This is too disjointed to be real crazy. This is someone just putting us on.

Not that I don't enjoy the site, I mean, come on, it's Pamela Anderson, what's not to like?
posted by Xoebe at 9:57 PM on January 17, 2009

and yet, all the same, I would consider this art.

outsider art, perhaps.

This isn't actual batshitinsane, it looks more like an art site of some sort, which happens to be very referential to Time Cube and the early web.

I saw this installation at PICA, there's a little more about it here, though unfortunately I can't find the catalogue essay online, which sucks because I remember it as being pretty good (and it was there that I was introduced to googlewhacking).
It was 6 years ago, so my apologies if I'm wrong about the details, but I remember it as being a room filled with hot pink paddle-pool type things, with tubes going all over the place and a diagram or bit of text about harvesting semen from drains, with a computer set up for browsing the above webpage.
Clearly it has made some sort of lasting impression on me.
