Fahrenheit Far Away

One half of Telefon Tel Aviv has died. Charlie Cooper was part of the well respected electronic/IDM group that has been releasing music and remixing since 2001.

Their website is currently a plain black page stating the full name, birth date and date of death for Charlie. Their low resolution version is still available, and requires flash. Their wiki page is pretty brief. Their Discogs page elaborates on their discography.

Josh posted a nice obit for Charlie on their (hard to read) MySpace page, and a follow up thanks post (which makes me glad Meta doesn't have avatar icons next to posts - it kind of ruins the heartfelt comments when the user pics are less than somber).

For some reason, I classified them with older groups. Charlie was only 31, and they had only made 3 albums (plus a remix compilation). They were Telefon Tel Aviv for less than 10 years. A new story adds some detail, but not much.

I wasn't going to . because I don't know them very well. Guess who just came up in my Last.fm recommended radio. A track called Introductory Nomenclature.

Oh man, this is awful. These guys were so good and unique. The only group I know of to effectively blend together Warp-ish buzzes and blips with soft, soothing organic sounds. They could've done so much more. A real tragedy.

Also, the "releasing music" link is the title track from their new record, which just came out a few days ago.

I used to run into them a lot at shows in Chicago and they were both really nice guys. Terribly sad news.

And what beautiful downtempo music TTA made.

Very sad to hear this.

I deeply loved everything they released. Their remix of "The Green Green Grass" is one of the most amazing songs I've ever heard.

I used to fall asleep to their first album in college. Six months they were my antidote to insomnia.

Fahrenheit Fair Enough has been in my top 10 rotation since I first heard of them last summer. I was looking forward to catching them on tour.

TTA have left a huge mark on my life. I listened to Fahrenheit Fair Enough and Map of What is Effortless on my cd walkman on repeat while wandering around aimlessly after my first messy breakup during college. It's some of the most emotional electronic music I've had the pleasure of hearing, I really hope that history will honor them for their talents. I'm glad I was able to see them perform live before Charles' passing, I will miss him.
