It is still impossible to project the globe onto a 2d surface that maintains both shape and equal area.

That said, this video is quite cool, it looks as if they took the individual projections from a Universal Transverse Mercator and animated them.

Seriously, this was very interesting, and a unique addition. The video animation was definitely worthwhile.
