New Extreme Sports. Mega ramp skateboarding, ostrich racing, underwater golfing, pole dancing and pillow fighting are just a few of the innovative new sports you may see in future X Games. (via SpoFi)

What's so new about playing golf underwater?

Wait--you mean on purpose?

Actually, mega-ramp skateboarding has already been added to the X-Games. They call it "Skate Big Air". And they added BMX Big Air.

Any sport that looks that cool couldn't be left out for long.

Those extreme wheelchair faceplants don't show much promise.

So people still say "extreme" and use the "X" prefix? Huh.

I think it's a stretch to call this one extreme, seeing as it was done, and done better, over 30 years ago.

The later one looks like it would be very hard on a rope.

Flipping heck, is every post on that site a numbered list of stupid things people are doing? Was it started by former Cracked employees?

First thought, no way anyone could beat an ostrich in a race. Those things are fast!

The XGames = the bizzaro Olympics.

Q: Anyone know the music being played behind the Mega Ramp Skateboarding clip? I didn't see the music source credited, and I'd like to find more of it.

Also, that one shot of the camera looking down that 100+ ft. ramp made my stomach churn. I'm assuming they use physics to determine how much of a break between takeoff and landing they can get away with? Because using trial and error for that would just be insane.

I don't think that list corresponds with games that could conceivably end up in the X Games. I mean, Michel Fournier's accomplishments have been absolutely amazing, but it's not a sporting-event-capable feat.

And pole dancing? Naked workouts? I think the rest of the X Games would quit if "pillow fighting" because "extreme".

Realistically, it doesn't get that much more extreme than street skeleton anyways. Just leave it at that.

What about link clicking? I might have a shot at that one.

DU : So people still say "extreme" and use the "X" prefix? Huh.

Sure, once it gets into the collective consciousness it becomes an easy marketing well to keep going back to. In 30 years I fully expect to see Metamucil Extreme and X-laX up on the selves at the pharmacy.

Probably next to pictures of AARP spokespeople catching some big air and pulling 720s on their Segway-walkers.

How about an extreme winter sport?

That music is the interlude during Metallica's instrumental "Orion" off of "Master of Puppets".

It's one of my favorite songs ever.

How about 10 retarded kids on rollers skates armed with baseball bats with nails sticking out of them inside the octagon?

That was some shitty word puttin' together on my part.

Pole dancing is neither a sport or extreme. Unless you are watching the "Code of Honor" episode. And, really, that was pretty boring.

Thanks, orme and Pogo_Fuzzybutt. I guess I need to go back and listen to more Metallica. &lt/sheepish>

Is it going to be covered on ESPN 8 "The Ocho"?

I love that channel.

So yeah the guy in the wheelchair video bailed several times in the beginning of the video but later on he does some crazy awesome stuff. When he did the back flip all I could think was how close that brought him to being dead or a quadriplegic.

Also I reeeally want to do one of those giant swings, the biggest one I've done was maybe 80-90 feet and it was fun, but too short.

That site seems freakishly incapable of predicting fashion trends. But the political statements are easy enough to get behind.

That crazy pogo stick was demonstrated during the Winter X Games this year. It's rad; I seen it myself! Well, on ESPN.

Anything with "mega" in it must be good. Except for acromegaly. Oh and Meg Ryan.

Okay, I suppose megacolon is not so good. But that's it.

Sure, much of it is stupid. But I would don a birdman suit and jump out of a plane this afternoon if I could. That's awesome. Especially if they achieve what they're setting out to do: a safe, controlled landing sans parachute.

I'm not sure how you would make Parkour into a competitive sport, but I'd watch that. Those guys are god-damned amazing.

I just learned today about the very real sport of chess boxing^: competitors alternate 4 minutes speed-chess, 2 minutes boxing, and the first knockout or checkmate wins. Also, not quite off the ground: Whiskychess Strongman-Boxing: the same, except that each round starts with two shots of whisky and the chess board is giant, with all the pieces full of cement.
