Make it work, geeks!

Diana Eng (from Season 2 of Project Runway) has come out with a new book for the DIY fashion geek called: Fashion Geek! (Via Project Rungay.) Gives me something to do while I save up for one of these.
Diana (and two co-workers) also WON the 2006 Yahoo Hack Day:
"A handful of teams were awarded prizes in categories ranging from “Too Useful” and “Best Schtick” to “Overall Winner”. The overall winner, determined by a quick huddle of judges after the demos (David Filo, Jeff Weiner, Ash Patel, Bradley Horowitz, Chad Dickerson, David Hornik, Peter Fenton, Gina Trapani, Salim Ismail and me) was a hardware/software combination device stashed inside a woman’s handbag.
The winning project, called Blogging In Motion, combined a camera, a handbag, a pedometer and the Flickr API to create a device that takes a picture after every few steps and then automatically blogs those pictures. The device was created by Diana Eng, Emily Albinski and Audrey Roy, pictured to the right along with the device.

Looks like "fashion nerd" from where I'm sitting.
Too bad the models are still underweight, eating-disordered freaks of nature.

My attention was diverted by the story about Kenley (runner-up from the last PR season) dumping her boyfriend by hitting him with a cat or something.
So ... awesome post!

Her stuff on PR was awesome, but she had no chance. She would incorporate magnets! And then the poles would reverse! The thing that won her a spot on the show was pretty awesome, it monitored your heart rate and flashing lights to display it.

There was a techno-fashion designer on Make TV in or around episode 9. FYI.

She did a full on fashion show of stuff from the book last night, I was invited but couldn't make it to NYC -- sigh -- see fashiongeekbook.com for more.
Her mathematical knits based on mathy goodness are AMAZING, we referenced them in the UK knitting magazine I edit last issue. I first saw them at Seamless (we were both in the 2006 show) and was just blown away.
Plus, she's just so nice and awesome in person. I can't see her ever dumping a cat and a laptop and water on someone while they're sleeping (KENLEY!)

Save up? Build this kind of stuff yourself out of a Lilypad Arduino and sewable, washable electronic components. Also, take a look at Craftzine blog.

Of course, it's for women, so...when do we get a men's version?
