I miss Choco Tacos. Best novelty ice cream dessert ever.

Choco Tacos are further proof that the best tacos come from trucks, ice-cream vendors or not.

You are stealing food from the mouths of Pepe's children! You probably put creamers in your ice water, too! Curs!

I recall a song by MC Paul Barman where contemplates the accusations he sometimes receives that he has insulted hip hop by being funny in his songs. one of the ways he asks himself this is by asking "Have I made a mockery of a culture like the Choco Taco?"

From a link off the FPP, check out the Moffle's (Mochi + Waffles) - at the bottom there is a video of a Japanese Moffle making machine! I've always wondered what to do with Mochi (besides glutenous blobs) and this may be it.

The Choco Taco is overrated. I want to love it, but alas, I cannot. It is always taunting one with it's potential, but upon purchase and consumption the Choco Taco is invariably stale and lacking.

The best of the best of these ice cream confections is undoubtedly the It's It. Nothing compares. It's presence in a market - like the similar presence of Trader Joe's and In-n-Out - is one of the surest indicators of a refined, genteel civilization in good health and a lively culture.

kid ichorous: I made this (at work!) based on a link that came up when y'all were talking about the McGang Bang or the Bacon log or something a month ago. It's a 4lb hamburger patty with two large bacon pizzas for the bun. Season to taste. It's no ChocoTaco, but it's pretty damn tasty.

I agree with loquacious 1000% except that a FRESH choco taco is amazing, but 99% of the time you'll get a stale shell that tastes like ass.

My wife loves It's Its so much that I got her a case of them Fedex'd for her birthday (the only way the company sells them outside of their market). The shipping was some ghastly cost triple the price of a few dozen of them but it was totally worth it. We savored them for months eating just 1 or 2 a week.

I used to love Strawberry Shortcake bars, but I'm not sure if I could stand the artificial flavor now. If anyone has a home recipe link I'd definitely try it.

I need an It's-It now (oblig. factory video).

The problem with real Choco Tacos and this homemade one is, in both cases, the shell. There's nothing better than fresh malty waffle cone, and neither soggy stale, frozen-for-a-month waffle cone shell nor a dried crepe substitute can possibly compare. Making your own Choco Tacos really necessitates a waffle cone baker, a pizzelle press, or at least the use of the correct batter.

I would argue that this is ok, but it's no chocolate tortilla. I've made that recipe, and oh dear lord, it's amazing. I make a ganache instead of using syrup and add a little cayenne pepper to it. Yum!

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't let me stand at that spot after the freezer and before the wrapping machines, do you? I think I could only last an hour or two.

I agree with Loquatious and Mathowie, that the It's It is the ultimate in ice cream confections. Sadly, Nestle has tightened their monopoly on the convenience store freezer making them near impossible to get.

A few years ago, my husband bought me a case from the local distributor. Much cheaper than having it FedExed!

God, I weep for the Mint It's It. It was rare, even when you could find ANY It's It. The Plaid Pantry by my old house used to have them, now they are nowhere. If anyone knows where I can get them anywhere in the Portland, OR MSA, memail me!

I like Choco Tacos. I'm kind of sad that Taco Time doesn't sell them anymore. I don't even mind when the shell is chewy and stale.

peep, I have been trying to construct a comment on the mint It's It. It was the only flavor they had at my school cafeteria snack bar (I know, how cursed am I to have but ONE flavor of It's It at SCHOOL), so I ate them a lot, but I'm troubled, so very troubled, because I just can't understand why I so love that fucked up flavor combo. Mint/molassesy oatmeal should be WRONG, like mint/coffee, but it's so amazingly right... and my head hurts in a way that makes me long for an ice cream headache.

The Choco Taco was the first time I had a desert that was shaped like a taco and chocolaty in flavor. I knew what I was getting myself into, but I never expected it to be quite that mind blowingly good. I once tried to make my own choco taco but neglected to notice that the shell was really a waffle cone and I just used regular taco shells. Needless to say it was less than stellar.

I gotta agree with the jonmc...
Take 2 hot-right-from-the-oven cookies (your favorite kind) and use a butter knife to spread
about 1 or 2" inches of your favorite ice cream flavor to make a great baked alaska sort of result. (lately I prefer butter pecan ice cream sandwiched between 2 hot short bread cookies for the sweet and salty mash-up)
