Just play this, I think you'll love it.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. This is quite a charming and sophisticated flash game, which I found via the always awesome Jay Is Games.

can;t play, still Gemcrafting (God that last level before the river, with the huge mass of towers and the path that goes nowhere, is kicking. my. ass.)

Okay, not bad... but can we suspend this little unhelpful post-naming meme now?

Is this a Herzog game?

herzog zwei is among the best games ever made. the arrow of time is alright, but two-human herzog zwei is epic.

Everything is better accompanied by a reel to reel tape of raving Klaus Kinski humiliating lesser men. Could someone cue that up please?

Maybe a bit more context in link? Yes, the tags have some information, but the FPP itself... not informative.

That said, the game is pretty cute. Still haven't figured out the best way to combine arrow types yet.

Herzog Zwei was totally rad. We used to play special variations like "motorcycles only" and so on, just to make it even more ridiculouser.

WM, sorry I couldn't resist the mini-meme. My apologies.

I'm thinking that piercing/fire works well for the first stage, but then I got to the boss and discovered I probably should have bought a fortress upgrade. For the second stage, lightning and explosive worked, but again I probably needed another fortress upgrade.

At least this game has gotten me to stop playing Gemcraft. For awhile

I ran across this the other day. I played through and beat the game.

I recommend homing arrows, but they do almost nothing at level 1, only sort-of work at Level 2 and are only truly effective at Level 3.

The bosses are immune to effects, but piercing arrows work pretty against them. Using a combination of homing 3/piercing 3 works very well against the bosses, because the arrows will circle around and hit multiple times.

Homing / explosive works pretty well for most everything else.

The other arrows are kind of fun here and there, but I didn't find them really effective for taking out enemies quickly.

The basic base shield is pretty good. The extra turrets are worthless. The "rebound" shield I didn't seem to notice being effective.

Oh lordy. Lightning arrows are TERRIFYING at level three. That's how it's done, methinks.

Explosive / Pierce carried me through the whole game, no other upgrades except for fire on the first level. Explosive blows through the "shield" component to most enemies and the remainder is weak enough to get killed by the explosion cloud. Pierce seems to help on groups, but homing might work just as well. The other nice thing about that combo is that it works on the boss. The other "effect' arrows were a little neat, but who cares about playing with the drones when the basic combo is strong enough to kill any enemy in one hit AND works on the boss?

I also had this problem until I figured it out: red gems totally blow. You have to combine them with other colors to get the damage bonus. If you've got enough mixed gems it's possible to win. (Once you kill the last armored wave it's pretty easy.)

What good are the combo upgrades?

Also, what do some of the less explicable arrows like traitor arrows and time arrows do?

Explosive/homing and you can do this w/your eyes closed. Still kinda fun.

Time arrows freeze guys or regress them into dinosaurs(!). Traitor arrows can make them attack their own guys. But yeah, as others have said homing/explosive plus shield/cloaking/that little auto firing turret is all you need.

Homing and pierce, fa show. The piercing arrows kind of orbit your enemies!!!

Traitor + Piercing got me through most levels, since the Piercing allows you to convert multiple enemies to your side, provided they're bunched together. If you fully upgrade both, it becomes a truly amazing sight.

For the bosses, a combination of lightning and explosion was best, doing a lot of damage with each hit.
