all tomorrow's parties is the best music festival in the world. so where's the news about ATP - LA, curated by sonic youth, supposedly in october? is it true their site is down due to non-payment by the outspoken promoter Barry Hogan? does anybody know anything?

I feel like Sonic Youth have missed the point entirely by trying to do an American version of ATP in LA; the weekender works because of its bizarre location (a low-rent holiday camp by the chilly English seaside, where hundreds of indie kids take over for a weekend, inhabiting motel-style "chalets" and running around the beach fully clothed), not just because of the acts booked. For full effect they really should have booked Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge in the Poconos or something. All you have to bring is your love of everything! (That said, I don't have any info on the trials and tribulations of the festival's promotion. Sorry!)

Seems to me I read some about it at pitchfork or usagainstthem a few weeks ago but can not seem to find the archived story. Tortoise, The Ex, Neil Haggerty and Steve Malkmus are the names that jump to mind.

I've always had this strange fascination with the Mount Airy Lodge. Why don't they have those groovy commercials any more?

"Sonic Youth will be curating the All Tomorrow's Parties festival
at UCLA in California from October 19th-21st (note that recent news
reports have said the festival will only be 2 days, 19-20...?).
SY will choose all of the bands that perform (and play themselves,
of course). Here's a list of performers that have been announced so far:
Le Tigre, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Eddie Vedder, Cat Power, U.S. Maple,
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Television, The Boredoms, Stereolab, Neil Hagerty,
Fred Anderson Trio, Derek Bailey, Smog, Autechre, Papa M, and Quix-o-tic."

I was at the original Camber Sands weekend (Bowlie, with Belle & Sebastian headlining) and Sleater-Kinney put it best: "the only place like this in the US was the camp in Dirty Dancing...")
