Ok Beck - the game's up

The Guardian Over on MeFiMu we've had a ball covering all the tracks on the Velvet Underground & Nico album. So I was slightly irritated to read this in The Guardian on Friday 31st July Meanwhile, Beck has been uploading weekly mixtapes...........to embed on his impressive new beck.com site, where he has also been posting covers of every track on the Velvet Underground & Nico's "banana" album, made with a merry bunch of his musician pals. (page 9 of the Film & Music supplement).

There have been rumours that Beck is a surreptitious visitor to our community. So assuming the Grauniad* report is true (always a dodgy assumption re newspapers) this is taking the piss. It kind of goes against the spirit of the community that someone is lurking around looking, apparently, for ideas to steal. Personally I wouldn't know Beck's music if I was pissing on it, so I for one wouldn't give a rat's arse if he outed himself to the rest of us. C'mon dude - this is pretty iffy behaviour. You could at least have told us you liked the idea and wanted to run with it yourself - simple courtesy.

* The Guardian is always misspelt this way in Private Eye owing to the large number of typos and clunkers the paper used to feature. It doesn't any more.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Major, man, this is way too sort of rambly and bloggy for a front page post on the blue. Not really how this part of the site works. -- cortex

This is not a good post for MeFi.

Perhaps MeTa is a better place for this?

Famous musician covers famous album. Metafilter was there.

Yeah, this is, if anywhere, only appropriate for MeTa. I'm not even sure it's appropriate there.

There are no famous people on metafilter. There are only words on a screen.

Here. Also, there's no mention of Beck on that linked page.

Uh, what?

Anyway, if Beck's reading us: hey, man, tell your brother to call me. I haven't heard from him in years.
