One Million Giraffes
At this point it's just fun to see people all over the world turning off their TVs, putting their computers away and sitting down to drawing giraffes.
From the expert, to the cute, to the inventive, to the...um...idk, One Million Giraffes is may actually make their goal, given that they got 12,000 pictures yesterday.

I don't like it when Web sites lecture me about the brower I am using. I am at work and have no control over that.

Wow, no kidding. Even though I could be using firefox or some other browser, I still need to have it pose as IE6 to get out of the network here at work.

This one (um...idk) would be a Doctor Who reference, from the 2005 Christopher Eccleston series.

I'm crap at drawing, but I opened GIMP and made my own giraffe to upload for them anyway. My lack of mouse control is embarrassing enough that I listed my age as 12.

You can create your giraffe(s) in any way you like, but not on a computer and no store bought objects.Fine, fine. Guess it's drawing and mobile camera time.

So sweet! Who doesn't love a giraffe? Hippos, on the other hand are total jerks. Just found that out recently from a South African friend of mine who, when I'd told him how I thought hippos were sweet little plant eaters clued me in that these are one of the most vicious animals alive. Not only did one chomp in half and kill his friend, but they spin their tails around when they shit, like a fan, to spread it as far as they can. Plus, their breath is counted as a weapon. I had the misfortune of smelling their breath. So. Wrong.
Huh. Guess I just had to get that off my chest. Back on topic - giraffes are the bomb. They have fuzzy little antlers.

I wrote this poem while on study abroad in South Africa. It is one of maybe three poems I've written since grade school. Finally, I have an audience for it.
THE GIRAFFE
The giraffe, a bull of stately build and grace
Unquestioned by the beasts about its feet
That graze on lowly roughage, turns its face
To mine, and evolution's labor greets
Its hairless rebel scab. My camera shakes
Between prehensile fingers while a tongue
Decides which waving hand of leaves to take
Betwixt the giraffe's lips. I gasp. A bungled
Photograph. The giraffe, who once had watched
with patient eyes and ancient wisdom, flits
away to higher ground. The frame is botched.
The tour guide chuckles, takes his seat, and spits.

!!!!!
Here's a poem my best friend from high school wrote. She read it at my wedding:
ode to my giraffe (blank verse)
Giraffe, giraffe, giraffe, giraffe, giraffe
Your neck is long, your spots are large and brown;
I like you best of all the animals.
The cow goes moo, the dog goes bark, the cat
Meows; but you, giraffe, make not a sound!
So gracefully you eat the leaves from tops
Of trees; you gallop through the grassy plains.
Not cat, nor dog, nor cow could e'er compare
O great giraffe, you make my heart go thump
A thump a thump a thump a thump a thump.

I have always felt that the plural of "giraffe" should be "giraves", with a long A. One giraffe, two giraves... you know it makes sense.
