I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into their fax machines, or why.

Cats for Clunkers? It had to be Michigan where the Humane Society is promoting its free cat adoptions like used car sales... That's right folks, Certified Pre-Owned Cats! Standard 4-paw Drive! 100,000 Purr Warranty! Made in Michigan and Better than New! But before you take that cat home, check out Catfax.org because nobody wants a lemonpuss. lol.
Found at Consumerist so it must be legit

...and yes, I had to do it just to bring back the "catscan" reference for the 437th time...

Do they pour sodium silicate liquid in your old cat so that their engines seize up?

Their heart's in the right place, but that youtube video is pretty cringe-inducing. What's that Dutch word that means embarrassed for someone else?

Turns out you get a bigger discount if you pick-up a hybrid cat.

Yeah, but trust me, you don't want to clean the litterbox of a hybrid cat. You need special training to dispose of that waste safely.

"Where pre-owned is better than new" made me smile. And want to adopt a kitteh.

Does nobody offer adoption fee reimbursements for cats that eventually appear on icanhascheeseburger?

I started reading this out loud to my girlfriend. I got as far as "The Michigan Humane Society has started a program called 'Cats for Clunkers'..." before she screamed out, "What? You put your old cat down and get a new one in its place?"

How much for the eatin' cats?

My apologies, NotMyselfRightNow, but I could not resist the most obvious used-car-related pun NOT already on the site, sincerely intended the "Clunkers" to refer to people who wanted to adopt a cat for free, and carefully worded the post to neutralize the 'trade in your old cat' meaning as quickly as possible.

But let me restate a long-standing caveat: DO NOT in any way rephrase a wendell MeFi post. It is written the way it is for very specific (if lame) reasons.

This is cute and playful and I wish more people would get over themselves and do whimsy promotions for good causes. I find it really hard to be critical of this stuff. And cats bring out more of that silliness, so yay.
