Old dogs photos, lost and found.

Old dog photos, lost and found. I’ve always loved and accumulated old photographs, but one day about 10 years ago I looked around my house and suddenly found all those long-dead babies and brides and wearers of extraordinary hats rather depressing. . . But I noticed that the dogs — frequent subjects of those black and white images, on purpose and not — seemed somehow to remain alive.

It may not be the most highbrow photography in the world but Elliot Erwitt's Dogs is still one of my favorite photo books.

(It's not exactly the best photo from my own collection of random old family photos, but I like this photo because for all I know, it could very well have been taken by a dog.)

I've got a couple old photos of a dog, from an estate sale, hung on my wall -- mostly because I ran into the dog's ghost when I was there.

Wow, these are great, but man... am I alone in that I have the exact opposite feelings about the dogs in the pictures compared to the people?

Tres creepy.

Depends on the feelings.

Aww these are great. I have some old photos of my late father as an adolescent, playing with his dog in the backyard of the house he lived in during the 1940s and 50s. The house is only one street over from where I now live and I pass by it regularly, so I always like to conjure those pictures in my mind when I'm walking my own dogs, imagining my dad's spirit being around.

How was the first one taken? Is the pipe attached to the dog's mouth? The black dog looks terrified.

Clever collection. I wonder how often they come across a old dog photo! You know how at antique stores they always have those large stacks of old photos...
