@biffa Agreed.
...and the corresponding Ruane, of course.

I was honestly expecting this post to be about this Big Daddy.

Imagine my disappointment.

(although I think a sequined top hat, a union jack leotard, the first name of Shirley and thirty years of heavy drinking would probably get you most of the way there)

It's times like this I feel bad that the last time I tried to do anything remotely construction-esque, I bolted myself to a board.

Big Daddy Crabtree takes on the ultimate boss in a fight to the finish.

Imagine my disappointment.

I don't have to imagine, as this seems to be yet another year I'm doomed to not be Big Daddy for Halloween.

Awesome.

Anyone have any tips on how to heat bend that gray electrical tubing? Halloween is coming up and that seems like a good skill to have.

Heat bending tubing is pretty easy with one of these. You do need ventilation, patience, and a good surface to bend it on though.

I think I would have soiled my pants if the elevator doors at whatever hotel Dragon-Con was held opened and that thing was inside.

All I have to say is 'Nifty,' or perhaps 'Would you kindly make me one?'

I think I would have soiled my pants

I think I would have had the opposite reaction (if that can be considered the "opposite" reaction).
Then again, being the full-spectrum geekdorknerd that I am, just BEING at DragonCon would have given me a constant "opposite reaction".

I would just like to point out that "100% awesome" or "75% lifelike in appearance" does not equate "100% accurate".

Is this where we get to talk about Big Daddy? I love that band!

Hmm, I suppose I ought to get around to playing that there Bioshock game my friend lent me.

Very impressive. Even moreso when the guy mentioned that he only weighs 135 lbs.

That's funny because I was expecting (or at least secretly hoping) that it was about this Big Daddy.

Dammit, I came in here to make a Burl Ives joke. Figured all I needed was a robe, a cigar and a goatee.

I would also soil myself, if only because I've only just gotten around to playing Bioshock and those things kick the snot out of me on a regular basis.

For the sake of completeness, here's Big Daddy Kane.

Why can't people go to this kind of effort for good games? Or at least "not shitty" ones.

An animatronic hand and arm extension were created for the left side of the suit.

oh, is that all? *yawn*

There is a fine line between 'good' and 'too-good'. 'Good' has everyone remarking on what an amazing job you did when designing and building your costume. 'Too good' has people like me, suffering from post traumatic stress from playing BioShock, loading our Thompson SMGs and getting ready to ambush and exterminate you when we see you coming.

For his safety, I'm going to stay away from this guy. Because if I see that drill spin, it's going to get loud and then messy. You know you've done a good job when your work makes people kind of want to kill you.
