Because God knows that whenever I drink a good old can of the Coke, America kills one more small child in an overseas country!

I get the point, and I have to concede it's a bit clever, but it also seems a bit... ham fisted?

but the new Pepsi logo really looks like it belongs on the tail of an airplane.

Dude it's all about the PEPSI GRAVITATIONAL FIELD (pdf)

As annoying as the constant obsession with HCFS is (it's not any worse then sucrose, cane sugar) at least they pointed out that diet pop didn't have it. I've seen food puritans saying that diet pop was "junk food" which is absurd given the fact it isn't food at all, it has no calories. It's not any less healthy then drinking mineral water, IMO.

If that video could be said to have something so sophisticated as premises, I would remain unpersuaded of them.

Hmm. My writing partner and I made this as a quick, silly test for some other, longer projects we're planning. Then I rendered it and threw it up on Vimeo. Then I didn't promote it, really. And now it's here.

And I'm here.

I...I don't know what to do.

Actually, diet soda is correlated with weight gain, it's bad for your teeth, and more importantly it tastes like ass.

It would be a lot easier to drop some snide comments at this point if I wasn't drinking Sunkist with my pita and hummus right now. Guns are delicious.

I noticed an entirely anecdotal correlation with diet soda and weight gain myself. I stopped my multiple-cans-a-day coke habit a few years back as part of a plan to lose some weight, and it worked fabulously. A while later coke zero started to tempt me, and I started having a can with lunch most days...and my weight seemed to start creeping up. There are MANY other factors I'm sure, but it sure seems like there's something more than mineral water going on there.

In terms of breaking bad habits, kicking soft drinks is one of the easiest things I've ever done. And it was good for me.

It's true that diet pop doesn't taste all that good but after drinking it so much I find I don't like drinking "regular" cola or pop that much at all. I remember thinking that they were all so syrupy and, I guess sticky. I especially don't like coca cola.

On the other hand, I accidentally got a case of regular Sunkist sparkling lemonade rather then the diet I usually get and I was surprised how good it was. I also had a regular Pepsi a couple months ago and I actually thought it had a very "rich" taste, compared to diet. But I don't know if I would have really enjoyed drinking it a lot.

I can't imagine drinking multiple cans of sugared soft drinks in a day. That just seems insane.

If there's a correlation between diet pop and weight gain, its probably from people who think "oh, I had a diet" and that it means they can eat more junk food in general. If you actually count calories and excersize, it won't be a problem.

That's possibly part of the effect, but the same effect has been observed in cows and rats. So, maybe there's more to it than that.

I don't really trust the human population studies based on surveys of existing habits either, but there is some research that has suggested some sort of metabolic effect. They've been kicking that idea around for decades, however, and there seems to be a lot of contradictory data. Although there are probably so many arguments in favor of getting the vast majority of your hydration needs from water that any particular one doesn't need to be perfect.

man, this Sunkist is so sweet

and so cold.

I once heard somewhere that one can of coke is the equivalent of x teaspoons of sugar (Google says 10).

I would never sit down and eat ten teaspoons of sugar.

So that reconceptualisation definitely helped me think twice whenever I go to the fridge.

I know that was hyperbole, but now I'm seriously wondering what people who like the taste of ass drink. Nine out of ten coprophiles prefer the not so refreshing taste of mung bean juice!

I have known women over the years who appreciate some degree of anal play... and the truth of the matter is, ass, if properly cleaned beforehand, doesn't taste like ass. Ass can be erotic, sexy... even liberating in the right context. So stop picking on the ass.

Now natto... that slimy crap makes me wretch.

Really, there are things out there far worse than ass.

Pepsi, Dew Throwback to return in December for 8 weeks

Unfortunately the Dew Throwback doesn't taste like Mountain Dew! Anecdotally I've heard they left out the orange juice? It just doesn't taste like Mountain Dew with delicious sugar should taste. The Pepsi throwback is pretty good, but I'd much prefer to have available everywhereelseintheworldrealsugar Coke, personally.

Diet soda does taste like ass...

and embalming solution (if you want to believe it).

All I know is I get wicked sick on any diet soda--major migraine, nausea, vertigo, etc for a entire day and when I was pregnant the OB said to stay away from all artificial sweetners. Yea, it can't be a good thing. Just drink the damn, pure sugar and be happy.

it tastes like ass

So does coffee. To me. But still I need caffeine, pref. w/out sugar, and I prefer it fizzy and cold to oily and hot. Iced tea also works but being a Southerner, I'm picky about it and won't drink that nasty hyper-sweet stuff in the bottle.

My weight has gone up or down slightly (currently: down!) my whole adult life, while my diet soda habit has remained about the same. Sample size: 1, so whatever.

Individual taste cat is individual!

Wait, is this going to devolve into one of those fat people/my diet rules/calories in and out/your favorite food is poison and also, killing the world threads?

Crap.
