Most Fascinating People 2009

Each year Barbara Walters runs a show featuring interviews with the "10 Most Fascinating People." This year, she interviewed Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Glenn Beck, Tyler Perry, Kate Gosselin, Adam Lambert, Sarah Palin, Brett Favre, Jenny Sanford (pre-divorce filing), and Michael Jackson's children.

Not everyone is pleased. O'Reilly felt Walter's choices were trivial, and that she was dumb to ever have a doubt about Lambert's sexuality, while Gawker felt she made too big a deal of his orientation.

This post was deleted for the following reason: meh celebrity chat, plus you say you just threw it up to see reactions = not the best reason for a post -- mathowie

I could not find a video for Tyler Perry or Brett Favre. If someone finds one, I'd be really grateful if a mod would link them in.

Apparently "grotesque" is a fair substitute for "fascinating" in some cases. But yeah, these are an interesting collection.

I'm sorry, but Walter's choices are trivial.

The lady gaga interview is a complete waste.

It did remind me of my favorite Daily Show quote about Beck:

Glen Beck: finally, a guy who says what people who aren't thinking are thinking.

She had a bunch of kids! And was on TV! And had a divorce!

That covers 4 of the list.

I'm really not defending half of this list. Frankly, I didn't care much for Jon and Kate when they were on TV, and they were a big part of why I cancelled my cable. To be honest, I partly just wanted to see which Mefi tendency would flare up the most: Gaga love in, Palin hate in, or Beck Parody Time.

MetaFilter: My petri dish.

You canceled your cable because of Jon and Kate? Seriously?

Remember when Barbara Walters was a journalist?

The Gaga interview features Barbara Walters intoning "bluffin' with my muffin," and is therefore the complete opposite of a waste.

It does not appear that she actually interviewed Michael Jackson's kids...

Add me to the list of folks for whom the petri dish thing rubs me the wrong way.
