#onlyahoewould

Perhaps this isn't a standard topic for the Blue, but I can't help but be amused and baffled by the latest Twitter trending topic: "#onlyahoewould".

What intrigues me so much about this is how bare it lays the internet - it demonstrates how memetic ideas exist even in the people who we take for granted as its users. These are people you would have no other reason to read the writings of, and yet, they're there to be consumed.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the internet. This is just amazing beyond all belief.

This post was deleted for the following reason: A single hashtag search on Twitter is extremely thin for a FPP and this is not being received well. -- pb

It's a little depressing that so many people don't know the difference between ho and hoe.

Random Twitter hash tag memes aren't that deep or important, I'm afraid. Are you new to the Internet or something?

This, btw, might have been a worthy fpp if all the tweets were about garden implements.

I'm hitting f5 just to see the amusing reason for deletion.

I have a hoe. I use it in my garden. Sadly, I can't pay my ho enough to use it.

What is amazing?

This thread, but probably not for the reasons the OP thinks.

Eh. I know that this isn't particularly notable or amazing, and yet the very concept still astonishes me when I take a step back and think about it.

LSK, this really should have gone on your twitter feed and not here.
posted by empath at 9:45 PM on December 22, 2009

Apart from any other reason, this kinda fails because you apparently have to have a twitter account to even follow the link. (Not that I mean that in a "is this something I would have to have a twitter account to understand?" sense. But twitter gives me nothing but a signup link if I follow the link or enter the tag in the search field.

Lay off the bong hits.

What does that even mean? You're suprised people have thoughts in their heads, as opposed to, what just sitting around watching videos on hulu?

These are people you would have no other reason to read the writings of, and yet, they're there to be consumed.

No other reason then the reason we are reading them? Isn't that the case with everything?

This is just amazing beyond all belief.

Sadly, these sorts of trending topics are a dime a dozen these days. The most ridiculous ones are what I refer to as the "gender war" trends, where some people (dudes, I guess) start one called #dontuhateitwhenabitch" which is inevitably followed by something like #dontuhateitwhenabrotha. Only with more spelling errors.
