Browser resizing angers me; then again, Slate's slideshow format is so primitive I'm always angered by it.

The Guam delegate's card is like a multilingual timewarp from 1964. I love it.

But Loretta Sanchez's (D-CA) is just an envelope (inbox?) full of um, wow.

We were actually rather thrilled to get the Obama Christmas card. But I'm shocked, shocked, to see that the Bidens sent one and left us out.

In terms of aesthetics, I was taken by Susan Collins' card. And overwhelmed by the number of Hatch family members. And put off by the overt religiosity of a lot of the cards.

And yeah, the Slate slide show mechanism needs some work, pronto.

Yeah, the slideshow mechanism looks and operates like it was designed by a high school junior in around 1999. It's pitiful.

I can't get over the Hatch family's nested card strategy of several family pictures in one large document. I guess their family is just that big and gathering them for one photo is that logistically untenable? But for all we know, the thing in real life could be, like, 11x17.

Yes, I too am appalled at politicians injecting religion into the celebration of Christmas / Hanukkah / Saturnalia / Eid, etc.

How dare they.

Christmas cards just aren't the same without generic braggy form letters.

"Since we wrote to you last year, Roland got a big promotion!"

I'm a bit disturbed that so many of these cards resemble crap I'd get from my Aunt.

also Guam Del. Madeleine Bordallo is living inside a David Lynch movie.

To: Huntsman's card, back row, second from the right, yellow shirt
From: The Sun

I think we need to stop seeing so much of each other. I hope you understand.

For just a second I thought the music on the front of Orrin Hatch's card was actually Orrin Hatch On Skis and my brain melted a little.

Best thing about the Hatch card: when you open it up, a little MIDI chip starts playing the song.

bearwife: At least Obama sent you something. The only congressman likely to send anything to me will probably be some loathsome Georgia Repub hoping for my vote. Bah, humbug.

I liked Roland Burris' card.

Unfortunately, getting one would mean you got a card from Roland Burris.

Also, does it seem to anybody else that, on the whole, the Dems' cards are more aesthetically pleasing than the Republicans'? I'm not sure why, exactly.

Although that last one from Loretta Sanchez is fucking awful. And if she really wanted to be "Green" she could've just, you know, not sent out a jillion cards to her political supporters in the first place.

Because back in the fifties, when we were picking teams, the Dems picked the nerdy kid who turned out to be a great graphic artist, while the Republicans picked the fat kid who turned out to be a rich bastard/successful businessman.

It has a cat thinking "Eat your heart out, Tom DeLay." If you think that is awful, you are dead inside.

Think_Long - If you're using FireFox, a little tip to disable browser resizing. Go to Tools - Option - Content Tab - click the Advanced button next to JavaScript - uncheck the box named Move or Resize existing windows.

Also - I love Huntsman when he was our governor but Jaesus Christ did you really have to put the entire brood on the card? It's like seeing the earth weep from the crushing weight of overpopulation one family at a time.

They're "green" because she emailed them to her supporters. The money she would have spent on printing them went to charity.
