I remember when the office I worked in got all-new computers and monitors in 1993. Everything Gateway; there were cow-spotted boxes all along the hallways and next to the cubicles. Some of us claimed the boxes, and mine served me well for three moves (and I believe are still packed in the back of a storage unit in Burbank, filled with books I wish I had room for in my tiny apartment). The computer wasn't so hot; barely survived the upgrade to MS Office 95...

I didn't grow up with boxing day, but the name makes a lot of sense. That's the day you box up all the trash.

For anyone who doesn't know but cares, Boxing Day is so named because servants traditionally served on Christmas and had the following day off, and employers gave boxes to staff on that day.

I celebrated Boxing Day in the traditional manner, by punching out a loved one and losing all of my money to a crooked promoter.

I keep any cardboard boxes that happen to fall into my hot little hands, especially the computer ones. They may seem like clutter now, but that big sturdy box with the built in handles will come in really handy three or four years later when the computer breaks and there's no other way to haul it to the shop. And shoeboxes are really useful for storing science fiction magazines.
