I'm sorry but this is the only song about libraries and librarians.

It doesn't mention Michael Jackson's "Librarian Girl".

His Name is Alive has a song called "Library Girl." Could never figure the words out enough to find out if it had an obvious connection to, um, library girls, but I wouldn't hold my breath--Warn usually makes the allusions more indirect and puzzling, fun to realize 5 years later.

Half of the songs are about sexy/romantic goings-on at the library.

If only.

It's good to see 'Swinging London' on the list, but they should have included Piano Magic's I Am The Sub-Librarian (lyrics). I'm particularly fond of this song because it's set in my part of North London: 'Chalk Farm to Highgate Woods, sportsbag of borrowed books'.

Missing the all too short lived band The Librarians, which featured actual librarians. The linked song isn't so much about librarians as it is about drinking and girls... but that's rock music for you.

Not about a library or library-inspired, but Tears For Fears Head Over Heels has a video involving a librarian and hijinks in a real university library, Emmanuel College Library, Toronto in 1985. Gotta love the card catalogs at 1:30.

When I shelved books for my local library Back In The Day, the Head Shelver was the frontman for a local punk band - wore all black, spiked hair, the full package. On Saturdays there were rarely any patrons in the library at close. One Saturday in particular, when the weather was bad and one of the more laid back librarians was in charge, Scott was allowed to read the closing announcement.

Instead of doing the whole 'attention patrons, the library is closing in five minutes, please gather your belongings and blah blah blah' scripted speech, Scott took the mic and announced 'Hey, the library is closing and I wrote a song about it. Here it goes:

thelibraryisclosing
thelibraryisclosing
GET OUT! GET OUT!

thelibraryisclosing
thelibraryisclosing
GET OUT! GET OUT!

The liiiiiieeebrary is clooosssssinnggggg
GET THE HELL OOOOOOOUUUUUTTTTTTT!!!"

So, a guy walks into a library and walks up to the reference desk. The librarian says "Can I help you?" The guy says, in a booming voice, "Well, I'd like a double cheeseburger, onion rings and a milk shake". The librarian is taken aback and says "Sir, you do realize that this is a library, don't you?" The man looks around and whispers "I'd like a double cheeseburger..."

There’s a lonely librarian."

I tell this joke at the beginning of library instruction classes, to loosen everybody up.

When they don't laugh, I tell them there will be points given for future efforts to laugh at the jokes.
