Picture Book Report

Picture Book Report is an extended love-song to books. Fifteen illustrators will reach out to their favorite books and create wonderful pieces of art in response to the text that has moved them, shaped them, or excited them. From sci-fi to children’s books to fantasy to serious novels, we’ll cover them all. For three weeks out of every month there will be a new illustration every day from one of us along with our thoughts, process, anything we can come up with. Together we will try to excite readers both new and old and capture some of that magic of storytelling..

The first illustrations are just now being posted, although all of the illustrators have done something of a cover treatment along with a short interview.

Thanks, some of these drawings are really beautiful. I needed some inspiration to find new books too.

Although i do have a question - if I was to say illustrate a public domain book - could I lay it out in Quark and get it instapublished though lulu or something and then sell it cause I've had that idea in the back of my mind for a while now.

Wonderful, thanks!

Neat. I especially like the HGTG one, although for some reason something stirring in my memory of the book makes me think the Vogon ships are supposed to be cubes or rectangular prisms, not (as the one in the picture appears to be) spherical.

@Target Practice, glad you like the illustration! Having just re-read the book to create the image, I can assure you there's actually no real description of the Vogon ships' appearance other than being yellow and massively large.

Oh dude!
I didn't realize that one of the illustrators in the project was Mefi's Own™! I totally would have given you a shoutout.

And now i'm a super dope, because I just went and looked at projects, and of course it was posted there like, two weeks ago.

(that is to say, I found out about this without having seen it on Projects, which I rarely look at. Small World, I guess.)

Yep! Two of the illustrators are Mefi-related-- me (Meg Hunt) and John. Oh and Laura Park was on Mefi at one point too I think. Small worlds!

So glad you guys dig the project (and thanks for posting it up here)-- hopefully it will continue to hook new fans too!
