The Internet is made of cats.

I've rambled drunkenly many times about how cats created the Internet to lull us all into submission while they develop thumbs and take over. I'm still not sure I'm wrong.
posted by darksong at 8:21 PM on February 18, 2010 [3 favorites]

sockington is a mefite.

Aslo, that animal in the first video that wasn't the cat...I am sure you're not supposed to expose it to sunlight, get it wet, or, most of all, feed it after midnight.

darksong: "The Internet is made of cats."

As Dee Extrovert points out, repositories of knowledge and cats have always gone together.

I know his owner is. I'd love to see that he is.

(Although Pennycat would probably have more to offer.)

TwelveTwo - It sure was a good year for cats.

And a pretty bad year for a lot of humans. Coincidence? I DO NOT THINK SO!

18 made me laugh so goddamn much the first time I saw it.

Because it is AWESOME.

... the first time I saw that, it was exactly the right size that I had to scroll down to read the bottom of the sign. The internet comedic timing was perfect. I must've laughed for 10 minutes.

I was going to loudly and firmly say that any such list that doesn't include stalking ninja kitty will be snuck up on and eaten, but apparently that was an important cat from 2008 and so did not make the cut this time.
posted by yhbc at 9:38 PM on February 18, 2010 [7 favorites]

mullingitover's kitties are indeed wrongly missing from that list. The Hop! Hop! Hop! of the little black kitten confronted with the treacherous spotty carpet is the cutest thing I have seen in many a day.

All the images are blocked by my company's internet filter. If IT is starting to block pictures of cats on the internet, they might as well just cut our internet connections entirely.

I am also going to have to wait an agonizing 6 hours before I can go home and find out what the 30 most important cats of 2009 look like.

"He had no further intercourse with Spirits, but lived upon the Total Abstinence Principle, ever afterwards; and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Caturday well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Surprise Kitty observed, Ceiling Cat Bless Us, Every One!"

Great day on the blue--puppies and kitties and kongregate games, oh my!

Socks isn't a Mefite, but I am.

I can imagine what those posts would be like.

OH GOD NOT ANOTHER SINGLE LINK POST where's jessamyn when you need her OH LOOK DUST

Having seen Socks mentioned in everything from women's magazines to celebrity spreads in newspapers and all manner of websites, I find he's either bewilderingly referenced or used as some sort of indication of the zeitgeist of Twitter, as if a single account tells you what a whole service is like.

What matters, however, is that they didn't include common_squirrel, the David Lynch of pet accounts. Even a list of 30 online cats should list him - he's an honorary cat, like a cat knight or something.

Bummer that there's not a Most Important Cats from previous years. It's a shame Ceiling Cat, Sparta the Mean Kitty and so many others have been neglected.

Prediction: sometime in the future, the Most Important Cats award show will eclipse the Oscars in global viewership.

All right, I'll admit it; over the weekend I took an oversized cardboard box, put it on the living room floor and stuck the cat in it, hoping to reenact the coolness;

Sadly, the little fucker was completely contented by this turn of events and went promptly to sleep.
