International Pancake Day

It's true! IHOP is serving FREE PANCAKES TODAY to celebrate International Pancake Day. But wait... aren't they a week late? Who cares - I'll be glad to celebrate this day twice. [Previously: 2009 2008 2007 2006 . . . MetaFilter loves pancakes amirite?]

It's also Spay Day. Perhaps we should double check the ingredients on the pancake batter the IHOP uses.

Anyway, Happy Spay Day and Pancake day to you and yours, Mr. on_display.

The benefits of the cause outweigh the disgust I am going to feel afterwards. America!

the server seems to be overloaded...

Their website is down too.

But... why are they a week late? Everyone agrees they are, but nobody says why, that I can see..

It's too bad that most IHOPS I know are fairly scummy...otherwise I'd be all over this :(

Too late, it's already Lent! Back away from the pancakes, everyone, I'll handle things from here.... just let me find my fork and my maple syrup...

Nice one, improperly regionalised house of pancakes.

So. Who here likes pancakes?

Yes, we like Pancakes!

I didn't go this morning - the IHOP nearest me was the one that was inundated by the local media.

I will go later tonight, though, as the one nearest my house should be relatively media-free.

Yay pancakes!

In other news, Denny's will offer free 'refills' on pancakes until the end of March. Also, french fries. So if your glycemic load needs some adjusting, hop on over.

No real maple syrup, no deal.

Just got back from IHOP for lunch. Free pancakes included.

Whatever else I have become, I am not a hater of free pancakes.

You'll have to go to Vermont for that Special Syrup IHOP.

Unless you go to the IHOP in Vermont, you will be disappointed on the syrup front.

Nice to see this important issue being noticed. I'm on break right now, but as soon as I'm done I'll be back out in front of IHOP with my END THE WAR ON SHROVE TUESDAY protest sign. Fight the secularization of pancakes!

Because they're trying to take an already existing tradition and turn it into an IHOP marketing ploy?

From the IHOP site: "While IHOP's National Pancake Day typically takes place on Shrove Tuesday, this year the company will host its free pancake event on Tuesday, February 23, extending the fundraising window by one week to maximize donations for Children's Miracle Network."

I'm really not sure how that works--did they start having the collection box out last Tuesday? I never go there when the pancakes aren't free, so I don't know.
posted by darksasami at 3:40 PM on February 23, 2010

They did have the collection stuff going on last Tuesday. I was there, I ate pancakes. I may not eat pancakes today, we haven't decided.

IHOP sucks. I always regret going there (always at the instigation of someone else).

This is the second annual Pancake Day I've missed.
Good thing they're building an IHOP walking distance from my house.

If I Had Possession Over Pancake Day.

Note: The brightly colored, tiny racing cars are not the point of the link. They're merely a pleasing bonus.

Not to derail, but my favorite breakfast-food-themed-restaurant will always be Waffle House.

My girlfriend used to worked at an IHOP about four years ago. The things she told me about what went on in the kitchen... Ugh. You couldn't pay me to eat there.

Haven't been to an iHOP since 1988 when I found a condom in the coffee decanter.
posted by terrapin at 1:52 PM on February 24, 2010

I (the OP) ended up not getting my free stack because the local IHOP was packed to the gills with stoned college kids, and I didn't want to wait an hour and a half for a table. After reading the last two comments, I'm kinda glad I opted out.
