Just up the street from where I live as well... I loved this story, was reading it yesterday. It's especially weird that the guy who stole the car has apparently been doing this for a while because he was a downed police officer's son- what is this, Mayberry?!?

So do we applaud the police for not killing each other, or boo them for not being able to hit a target in 20+ shots?

Right around the time I heard the banjos being plucked, I saw the cops race by and then heard the shots. That shut up the banjo players real fast.

How many cap hill mefites do we have here?

For yet more unexplainables please read a recent account with the Seattle police I've documented on my blog. . . (Self link) Email me if you have any thoughts on that. I'm still baffled. 2nd post down BTW

Heh- actually, he didn't cry. That's a "joke" from "me". *sigh* The baby jesus joke never fails to crack me up...

Anyway, CP, at least the three of us then- TTT, you, and me... kinda makes me wonder about the general geographic breakdown of MeFi users. How many from different states, or cities? How well is Seattle represented? How many outside-the-US folks do we have? Inquiring minds want to know...

Seattle is extremely well represented. We even had a f2f gathering of Seattle MetaFilterians a couple months ago. It was so good, the place we had it was gutted by fire shortly afterward. Might be time for another one.

the baby jesus joke cracks me up, too, but it needs to be used very, very sparingly to be the absolute funniest. so that everyone forgets about it, and then...

Apart from the police follies, I was interested in how the media described the area. The original article linked to above used "Capitol Hill" - the story in the PI used "North Capitol Hill" - and I think some tv stations used "the Eastlake area."

Do people living at E. Roanoke St. and Harvard Ave. E. really indentify themselves as living on capitol hill? In (a small) survey, only a few people considered the area north of 520 to still be capitol hill. Not that what the area is called makes much of a difference, but it's interesting to see where people draw boundries.

As soon as Lakeview turns into Boyleston I consider myself in Eastlake. But we've something of a connundrum I guess over there at Roanoke, I-5 and like what is it Furhman? What about Portage Bay neighborhood? I think I've heard it called that.
