The Salvador Dali of the Next Century

Larry Carlson's Psychedelic Videos (previously)

"G4Tech TV called him "The Salvador Dali of the Next Century", and High Times magazine labeled him an "artistic mastermind. Through his art, he presents us with the mystical dimensions of consciousness, coaxing us into sweet spiritualized epiphanies one moment then plunging us into completely bizarre surreal frenzies the next. His work is more than just eye candy for stoners. In the tradition of arch-surrealists like Miró and Magritte, Carlson at his best gives us a kind of disjointed representation of the slippery nature of the unconscious mind, driven to Dionysian extremes.

I really wanted to like these...despite his being compared by High Times to "arch-surrealists (?!) like Miro and Magritte."

This is exactly what it's like when I'm too high to sleep but trying to sleep anyway.

You know, this is why I love / hate internet video. The compression on most of these sites (Vimeo, Youtube, etc - even in HD) just can't handle fast editing, color flashing, and anything remotely Brakhage-like. It looks like garbage - literally digital garbage. Such a shame. Get with it, internet video overlords, and let us enjoy our psychedelic videos in peace!!!!

Madama Chao did it better... over 10 years ago.

Or maybe I was just on different drugs.

And I can't find a video link for it, but if you ever get a chance to see this (PDF), it's probably the best thing ever. Ever.

I'm not trying to piss on this, but... all you have to do to be dubbed the "Salvador Dali of The Next Century" is superimpose old looped TV clips on top of screen saver visuals? Set it to electronica? You don't have to paint or even imagine anything?

Makes me nostalgic for the days when I used to enjoy cheesy psychedelica. In a good way.

I remember seeing this four or five years ago. It induced nightmares. For weeks.

Time to ring up my shrink again.

Meh.

It's just a bunch of crummy random cliché quasi-psychedelic imagery stitched together haphazardly, innit?

I am still enjoying this, a week later... thanks again for the great find, crunchland. Every so often, a couple times a day, I'll sit down and look at a few more of his pictures, montages, animated gifs, flashes, what-have-you, and it continues to make me go, "Whoah."

I downloaded his mp3's as well, and it is some of the spookiest trippy ambient collage shit I have heard in a while.

He does interesting Twitter art, too. (Twarting?)

So, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED GREAT POST THANKS FOR MELTING MY BRAINS A LITTLE
