Oh, another thing about all that racial stuff!

Shoot me.

Well, as everyone knows there's USians, and there's THEMians.

Oh, and there's OBVIOUSans. The author of this rather OBVIOUS little screed is an OBVIOUSan, from the land of OBVIOUS.

USA-ians isn't a term and I'm not likely to respect a diatribe on racial discourse from anyone who would use it.

Hey, look, a person speaking English, talking in a jargon invented in American universities, has something to say to the people who will never read that blog!

Executive Summary

Blah blah blah, my insignificance is offensive to me, how dare you talk about me in English, there you go being colonialist/imperialist again, something something strategies of resistance, made up words.

I'm super offended by this.

I have never, in the history of my entire life, wished anybody on the Internet a happy Thanksgiving or mentioned Thanksgiving in any way, until just right now twice in this sentence.

And it pains me that I should have been accused of such.

Jesus! Racial bullshit and liberal "USians" usage!?!?!? Thanks for this poorly written blog post with no context divabat.

This is horrible, please let it be deleted. Pretty please.......

I do agree with that we should refer to Obama is the first not totally white president of the united states and not necessarily always celebrate his partial blackness...

I especially liked the comments section, where the author defended herself by arguing that just because she addresses a post to an group of people doesn't mean it's addressed to the entire group of people!

Someone should make a post entitled "Dear women on the Internet" just for her watch the dramabomb explode.

I feel there is an interesting conversation to be had about national-scale parochialism, but this isn't going to help us have it.

Didn't we already do the whole "not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving" thing, and it turned out excellently?

Also, check the comments below that screed. Makes sense that a blog that apparently tries to battle stereotypes would get some flak from its readers for an inflammatory shotgun-blast grarfest.

Dear Non-USians

1) "USians" is not a word.

2) "USians" is annoying.

3) Oh yes we are too.

4) Yes, especially then.

Ha. I love how this "rant" is hosted on a website with a .us domain extension.

OK, this guy (and yeah that includes female 'guys' -- I don't fill like looking it up, in spite of the homicidal apparently incipient woman in the logo, and unaware self deprecating name of the blog) really, really needs to take a pill.

The only thing more annoying than a asshole that holds forth on the value of one group over another by using really stupid gross ignorant stereotypes, is some asshole that holds forth in a call for awareness and tolerance by using really stupid grossly ignorant stereotypes.

Sorry, you fill that way. I'm not responsible for your neuroses and feelings of persecution, Mr/s/x Chally.

Implying like everyone in the US acts a certain way or believes a certain thing is as stupid as assuming everyone on the internet is from the US.

I always figured that the whole world celebrated Thanksgiving and The Fourth of July, most people just did it really half-assed.

I guess I'm not very American, because I don't call all non-white people "black".

I thought it was just because it would be really weird if I described all my neighbors here in Japan as "black".
posted by Bugbread at 6:07 PM on March 28, 2010

The only good thing about the use of the term USians is that provides you with ample opportunity to refer to Canadians as simply "Americans."

{btw, even my name is a typo. I apologize. I do prof read but, obviously don't wait long enough before I do.}

Well, if the goal was to get me to find her irritating for something other than saying "USians", she definitely succeeded.

Well I'm a USian and I have no problem with others using the term.

The post is obnoxious, but the outraged response is also obnoxious. I don't know, at least the post is semi-valid (if semi-coherent).

The rule of thumb of stereotypes is not "stereotypes are bad", but "stereotyping people with smaller invisible backpacks than yourself is bad".
