maxwell's silver hammer

maxwell, a college film version...... You've seen this one, you probably haven't seen this one ( a bit creepy! don't let your daughter date this guy!). There is this studio version . The Steve Martin version, a bit more professional. Another college version...(extra credit for a damn nice hammer in this one!). This one scares me a bit! and... if you just want to play the darn song without all the blood! This one gets points for hammer and teeth! or.."wanna see my hammer?"

Half of them use the other possible meaning to 'majoring in medicine', but none do anything with 'late nights all alone with a test tube"?

I'm struck by all of the cultural tropes that get replayed again and again in every video. For example:
~ When a woman is getting ready to go on a date, she's applying red lipstick and looking at herself in the mirror
~ Disruptive students throw paper airplanes at their teachers' heads
~ When teachers turn their backs, it is always to get something out of a file cabinet
~ Judges wear large, curly powdered wigs

MSH remains my favourite Beatles tune.

a) It's the most upbeat serial killing streak ever.
b) The Beatles impersonate women.
c) If you listen with headphones, you can hear Paul McCartney smother a giggle at the teacher scene's line 'Maxwell stays behind.'

Wikipedia suggests this is because John Lennon is mooning him from the control room.

Is it bad that all I can think of is criticizing maxwell's hammering technique in the first video? Momentum, get some Momentum, you have to swing back first before you swing down on the head. It's all about velocity.

Ugh, that Steve Martin version is horrible. He seems to be recycling all the camp mugging from his role as a dentist.

CheeseDigestsAll: “Ugh, that Steve Martin version is horrible. He seems to be recycling all the camp mugging from his role as a dentist.”

Except that that clip - from the stupid, stupid Sergeant Pepper's movie of 1978 - was from four years before the Little Shop Of Horrors musical in 1982. So if anything, Martin was recycling when he played the dentist.

except Little shop of horrors was released in 1986.

God, I almost made one of these when I was in college, but we had too much trouble getting the lighting good enough on 0 budget and I didn't want it to look like the one in the first link. Also, I didn't know enough girls to fill the female parts. I had picked out a silver hammer, and would likely have duplicated all the tropes mentioned above.
