Everything is about to change. Introducing the all new iCat Overlord Trainer for your iPad, from AppleĀ®. Until now, the only thing preventing cats from taking over the planet was their easily distracted nature and lack of opposable thumbs. It took Apple engineers many late, Pounce Treat and Tender Vittle-fueled nights to come up with this unique, unsurpassed app, and we think you'll agree that the results are simply spectacular. From the moment your cute wittle Snookums announces he's invented his first mind-control device....

Snark aside, it's a very cute, fun clip. Thanks so much for posting it. :)

Should I declaw my cat so it won't scratch my iPad?

From the note left by the poster of the video:
"the screen is fine! cat's claws are not as hard as glass.

also: don't declaw your cat: its like lopping off your fingers at the last joint! trim their nails instead."
So, the answer is "no."

OMG, that poor cat! Abusing it with closed-source software!

Quick, notify the EFF (Animal division)!

Amazing. The dog appears to have an almost innate hatred of the device. Quantifiable proof that dogs are smarter than cats.

I'm happy that the Corgi's owner is going to get what he deserves, in that he's ensured that every time he uses the damn thing his dog is going to go crazy with the barking and the biting.

I love how trusting the dog is. He's obviously scared, but Master says it's okay, so he tries it out.

The cat just wants to kill the wriggly thing on the screen.

I have no hostility towards Apple or the iPad but I really wanted that to end with her peeing on it. I am somewhat concerned about this reaction in myself.

Dee, the comments for the youtube video identify and link to the apps the cat is using (heh). You just need to expand the description to see it.

Apps:

Noby Noby Boy ($2)
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/noby-n...

Magic Piano ($1)

Is it possible that some iPads could be emitting a high frequency noise? Something that the Corgi can hear, but his master can't? Maybe the cat iPad comes from a different batch or something and doesn't sound as weird.

No iPads in my parents' home, but my mother did purchase a new touch-screen PC. All was well and good until she realized that the youngest (and smartest) cat, Cleo, was contemplating the screen with great interest. Especially the interactive screen saver.

Mom: OH MY GAWD WHAT HAVE I DONE

Apparently, that screen saver has proven to be the greatest cat toy ever. And when the screen saver isn't on, Cleo can always entertain herself by resizing the screen, opening and closing programs...

The FPP video was in fact shown on CNN last night at the end of AC360. I immediately googled for more, but Iggy seems to be dominating the ipad cat video space for the moment.

laugh now but wait until touch-screens become more common. People will be constantly apologizing for the "meow meow hate dogs meow meow" Facebook updates, scrubbing bookmarks of birdfeeder videos, and ordering tuna online will require proof that you have opposible thumbs.

If you give a cat an iPad, pretty soon she's going to want some apps for that iPad. Once you've given her an app or two, she's going to want to download whatever she wants on her own, so you're going to have to get her a credit card. Once you've given her a credit card, she's going to understand the concept of commerce and money and is going to want to do some day trading. Once she's doing some day trading, she's going to want to cause a bubble so that her stocks can peak in value. Once she's decided she wants to cause a bubble, she's going to need to start engaging in all sorts of insider trading. Once she starts insider trading, she's going to need to stay awake more often, so she's going to ask for that five hour energy stuff. Once she realizes that just doesn't cut it, she's going to move on to cocaine. Once she's doing cocaine, she'll need more money which will redouble her efforts at insider trading and bubble creating. Once she's created a bubble, she'll laugh in a drug crazed frenzy as the economy collapses.

Basically because she's a cat and doesn't give a flying fuck about the world economy.
