interesting. this guy's background brings into question those charges about the cocaine charges-fixing, doesn't tit?

Try to imagine, just for a second: a guy writes a book accusing Bill Clinton of covering up a cocaine arrest. The guy ends up dead. It's an apparent suicide, says the police.
What would have happened then?
A congressional investigation?

what better way to draw attention to a little known book with detailed allegations about your past than to kill the author?

W. isn't dumb. Do we need a missile defense system? No. Only paranoid lunatics think we need a missile defense system. Clearly W. is trying to pass off an anti-alien defense system as "missile" defense.
So the aliens learn of this, and decide to get back at Bush. They put an operative here on Earth to write a book that will hurt W.'s ability to be the great leader he is clearly meant to be. A few weeks ago, a super-secret team of scientist/ninjas learns of the alien's plot, track him down and hatch a plan. They call the alien every night, and tell him he smells. They tell him he's ugly. They just basically demoralize the alien until it decides to kill itself. And then, mission accomplished, the USA has stopped the first wave of a slanderous alien invasion.

(and this link was such a great opportunity to discuss source credibility and disinformation and evaluation of sources and effective strategies for sorting through the masses of propaganda sent over the airwaves every day, and if there's a way to balance propaganda from all sides to actually come up with something resembling an accurate picture....)

As much as I would have liked for the coke-snorting story to be true, this guy was just not very credible. He recently posted online that his source was Karl Rove, but the story received zero, ZERO coverage... (I think the "liberal media" took the week off)

How did you hear about it then? I'm sure I heard about it from mainstream media, although I can't recall the exact source.

I remember hearing about this book during the election coverage. It was on This Week with Sam and Cokie. It was pretty much dismissed by just about everyone, liberal media or no.

You might have found out here A previous MetaFilter thread linked to Hatfield's column for Online Journal. He was apparently a regular contributor.

He recently posted online that his source was Karl Rove, but the story received zero, ZERO coverage...

Hatfield paid hit man $5,000 to kill a coworker in 1987 and it almost worked (the bomb exploded but she escaped unharmed). Personally, I think his claims deserve no coverage -- he's exactly the kind of shady Arkansas character that right-wing publications would use as a source for anti-Clinton coverage, and I don't think it's any better coming from the other side.

You have got to be kidding... Do you know how many people that were close to investigations into the Clinton scandals and just people that were close to his presidency have died??? Here's just a small sampler...

James McDougal
Mary Mahoney
Vince Foster
Ron Brown
C. Victor Raiser II
Paul Tulley
Ed Willey
Jerry Parks
James Bunch

There's at least 20 more that I have listed, but not going to waste the bandwidth to MeFi. Funny thing is I don't remember all the investigations into these deaths. There were definitely questions asked on the news, but nothing congressional about any of these deaths.

The Clinton body count is a ludicrous bit of misinformation spread by maroons.

rcade: You can show me all the snopes articles you want, you can not however tell me all those deaths aren't suspicious. Half of the explanations by the snopes site didn't tell me anything new. You still have the people I listed dieing during his administration and each one had a connection to him. If this would happen to Bush, there would be a list going around also. Oh wait a minute, looks like it's starting already... author on book on George W. Bush a suicide.

What "new evidence"? Ron Brown and 34 others were killed in a plane crash in Croatia on 3 April 1996. The plane slammed into a mountain while on landing approach. There were no survivors.

While on approach for landing? HAHAHAHAHA
I was in a Special Tactics Squadron in the USAF when this happened. We launched on the rescue mission, which turned out to be body recovery. I personally manhandled about 25 of the 34 body bags onto the extraction helo's. They were on approach to a mountain, WAY off course from the airfield. I don't know about the other stories, but the Ron Brown one has serious holes in it.
4 days later we were in Africa, Liberia to be exact. That sucked.

Funny thing that Ron Brown death, because planes in fog don't normally slam into mountains that get in their way.

And the Clintons were so efficient at wiping out any trace of a scandal. That's why poor, poor Monica Lewinsky ended up dead.
