Amari's video for their song Tiger is a voyage through some vintage 80's scifi.

I thought I saw Alien stuff in there too. But almighty god can someone fix vimeo so it doesn't skip/stutter uncontrollably? Maybe it's just my system.

OMG - this reminds me I haven't watched 2010 yet this year! I loved this movie when I first saw it, and I remember reading somewhere that Clarke preferred it greatly to 2001.

It's a great video, visually. Glad there were subtitles, though, so I could turn the sound off.

(And, yes, Vimeo is jittery as f over here, too. High resolution is nice, but it's shouldn't trump smooth playback.)

Don't you DARE call '80s *anything* "vintage"!!

Flagged as "made me feel old".

Holy fugging synchronicities, I have 2010 on my DVD player ready to watch right now! I've never seen it and just happened to rent it. Nice.

Which movie featured the spaceships at 2:49? I don't recognize that. I want to say maybe it's "Battle Beyond the Stars" but I'm not sure.

Yeah, bonsai would be totally up the good doctor's alley. I will never get over the lack of hot World Crime League action. Sigh.

Casting aside the nostalgia it bathes my brain lobes in, I find this video to be really irritating. Unless it is deconstructing the modern wave of 'hey, let's remake and co-opt every single thing that the top paying demographic knows and loves' all it is doing is remaking and co-opting the things that I know and love while adding no original material at all. Yeah, I know they changed the faces, but I still consider it to be pretty flagrant in its half-assery.

The message this tells me is that we shouldn't bother making original material when we can just plunder the past & steal their intellectual work with gusto.

Really? Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that. 2010 has so many awful parts. Thanks for posting, I was just wanting to re-watch last starfighter the other day - so it's fun to see someone else remembers that film.

Oh, hell yeah. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada.

I think the stuff you thought was Alien was Lifeforce.

Enemy Mine. The ones with the pods are human, the roundy ones are Drac.

Thanks xenophobe! (and considering the subject matter of the movie, eponysterical)
