Strummerville is a new documentary by Don Letts.

"Strummerville is a registered charity that aims to create new opportunities for aspiring musicians. Set up by the friends and family of Joe Strummer in the year after his death, the charity seeks to reflect Joe's unique contribution to the music world by offering support, resources and performance opportunities to artists who would not normally have access to them."

I sat with Joe several times and told him stories about war, when he was interested in ideas about immigration and cross-culturization. We talked about a lot of songs that ended up on the second Mescaleros album that dealt with some of these issues. Wonderful, sweet and lovely guy.

I'd forgotten about these guys, but they had a table with samplers (and information about the documentary) at Billy Bragg's show at SXSW. It had fallen off my radar, but I'm excited to see the preview. I hope they get the documentary available in the US market soon.

I'm not sure Strummer's spirit can die, but I sure as hell know it shouldn't.

Thanks for posting this, Crane Shot.

I've been trying to find every decent interview I can with the man. Utterly utterly amazing, brilliant guy.

Joe Strummer lives!
