Carla's final video blog from heaven - shown publicly for the first time at Carla Zilbersmith's funeral after her death from ALS.

Carla's self-penned obituary
Hi Muselings, this is Carla's son, Maclen, and, by popular demand, my final post on this blog will be the eulogy that I delivered for Carla at her Memorial.

Powerful stuff. Though maybe I shouldn't have started the day with this because I fear that I'm gonna get a nasty case of "something in my eye" later on when I start thinking about how awesome this is.

"I am badly, badly dead." Heh.

My Dad just passed away last week, so thanks for posting this - I think he would have really enjoyed reading about her sense of humor and strength, because he made jokes until the end, too. "funnest death day ever!"

Jeez, way to raise the bar on the whole message-from-beyond-the-grave, Carla.

not that I was planning on kicking it any time soon, so no pressure.

HopperFan, I am so sorry about your Dad. It's hard to lose your Dad, I know.

Get off of McCloud? No wonder the gods struck her dead.

A close friend of mine died from ALS earlier this year. Carla's blog post on what it's like to have ALS is a good one.

Whoops, in the link above, drop the "#links" bit at the end. Here's the correct link.

That was pretty funny, but also very awkward.

Also, apparently youtube time limits still apply in heaven.

delmoi: "That was pretty funny, but also very awkward."

Odd comment. Awkward in the sense that it was clumsily executed? In which case, if you're thinking about production values you're missing the point. Or awkward in that it made you uncomfortable? In which case, your problem, not hers.

Read zippy's link. Read more on ALS.

Let me just say: fuck ALS.

Although really sad, that "Oil Can" comment is kind of golden..

Wow.

Please excuse me. I have to go wash my face and figure out what the hell is in my eye.

...How easy it is to have a great day when you can make and eat you own toast, throw on your own clothes, go out into the world and do whatever you damn well feel like.

I retract my previous complaints about having a bad day, ever.

Top comment on Youtube:

She's dead huh. I'm glad she lived. I never knew her but my life is better because she lived and died. I'll miss her when I never knew her.

Me, too.

Carla, I only knew you for nine minutes and forty five seconds but I miss you, too. You have enriched my life (and the lives of many others I am sure) beyond words. Thank you. I hope you are at peace.

Thank you for this beautiful post, madamjujujive. It's been a while since I last cried so hard or have been inspired so much. Your posts are always wonderful and MetaFilter is better because you are here.

Humbling to think of her suffering, inspiring how she wrote about it and to remember the preciousness of this amazing life.

ALS is a terrible way to die. To suffer the way she did and to still have a sense of humor is amazing.
