Obama: Episode I.

A new movie based on Obama’s childhood in Indonesia has just been released in Jakarta. The film is based on a novel released just this year. Certain differences can be noted between the book and the movie – for example, a scene showing Obama praying in the direction of Mecca was dropped.

For a Muslim, he sure does like beer a lot.

Reading his website, I get the feeling that he creates a lot of content. He must feel very accomplished with his 60 books, 57 film writing credits, and 20 production credits. I wish him luck.

(and by his, I mean the writer/director Damien Dematra)

I like the part where young Obama chases the money changers from the temple.

This will give the right wing the most anti-Obama ammunition they've had since that time he did or said anything.

I always refer to Obama as Oobama.

For a socialist, he sure loves private control of the public sphere.

Before a story becomes history
His story is not a mystery
Also not a fairytale
It's about bravery
Humanity
Dignity
It's about a boy
About his friendship
And his spirit
Keeping his dreams alive
Leaving his memories behind
This is a part of his story
In Jakarta

About 0:45 in the trailer, with the dramatic schoolyard face-off, it occurred to me that this felt like a trailer for Young Rocky Conquers Grade School. Then came the boxing glove sequences. I don't know what to make of this.

The pod race part would have been pretty cool, but he kept making those ridiculous noises.

These are just the flash-forward scenes. On the way to Indonesia his plane gets torn apart and they land on this strange, magical island ... OBAMA LOST.

Interesting. Can anyone think why?

Please please please can this be like the Lady Gaga threads where everyone dumps all their funny Obama homages?

Not enough discussion here about the actual trailer, people!

I'm glad you saw something in it you can latch on to. To me, it looks like a cross between a Lifetime Original Movie and and After School Special, and not in a good way.

I wonder if the production costs were within the budget of the RNC, Heritage Foundation, Citziens United, Et al.

Hmm. Looks like they were. In fact it looks like they were within MY budget.

I wonder if this is how Chinese people felt when watching Mulan.

I tried watching the clip. The music gave me flashbacks to episodes of the Six Million Dollar Man or something, though. Then when I realized no bionics were involved in the story I lost interest. Needs more bionics.

I am sad that they did not think to add bionics to the story of Obama's childhood to make it more awesome. It would've matched the music better then too. That is my review of what I saw. Thank you for reading.

If you mean Jeremiah Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ, you could not be further off the mark. The UCC is about as far from "evangelical" as a mainline Protestant church can get.

evangelical does not mean conservative

"The Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches united in 1957 to form the UCC. "

that's the 2nd sentence of the article you linked to
