how to syndicate greymatter with javascript.
useful and simple tutorial for those using this weblog publishing software and want to put their weblog contents in other sites in a very easy way.

Fascinating, I was just wondering how I would go about doing something like this, and here's the solution. MeFi to the rescue again.

Rather than syndicating to another site, however, I'm thinking of using this to create a separate version of the log generated specifically for AvantGo.

And since we're talking about GreyMatter again, how about another round of props for the brilliant Noah Grey.

Most lavish props are hereby given. Amazing writer, programmer, and photographer, and by all indications, overall good egg. Renaissance men have become downright scarce these days. Good to know that there are still a few around.

Very useful, but also a self-link. Um.

sorry for the self-link :-( but I thought that this would be very useful for some people..

yes...almost everything has been said about noah...above all his great skills and intelligence...he is a great, kind person...and inspiration for many of us...

It's extremely useful neo, so don't get all worried about the self link. To me, that's a rule that needs to be broken from time to time, and you've demonstrated why that's necessary.

Good show!

Quick meta-post, completely innappropriate in these circumstances as both the post itself and this reply should proabbly be in Metatalk, but I disagree. Self-linking is self-linking and I have been chastised for doing it in the past and I think they were right to do so.

The very least you can do is get someone you respect to decide whether or not it is a valuable thing that you might want to put on Metafilter. I mean - this could just as easily have been posted to the Greymatter boards, and might have done more good...

i don't know anybody that posts in metafilter. so I dont have anyone to ask.

i never saw in the rules I can't post a self-link. i apologized about the self-link as soon as i realized that mefi community doesn't look that very well. if you are worried about giving myself traffic you're wrong, i linked to the tutorial itself rather than my homepage or whatever. if you have been chastised for self-linking i am sorry too...shit happens.

About the greymatter boards, I emailed Noah the URL. maybe he can do more with it than me.

Tom to the rescue.

All that having been said - the code is really useful and cool and I hope to start using it as soon as possible. Self-linking is only considered bad form on the first post on a thread, BTW, which is why I can say with absolute lack of neurosis that I will be using it to help syndicate articles for Barbelith. Gotta have a sense of humour...

I think there's a couple of minor things wrong with the code though that it might be worth checking up. I think there is a tag that's not closed, and a couple of quote marks that should have a \ in front of them. Of course I could be making that up.

Neo, if you haven't done so, please send Domesticat at the GM boards a message about this, as she's maintaining a hacks/mods resource page.

Here's another tutorial on syndicating GM content via a RSS file, via Powazek via WebWord.
