Miko, thank you so much for posting this. I had been working on a post about the book Righteous Dopefiend by Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg. But, you can read an excerpt right on the American Ethnography website.

This is wonderful. Liked this bit from the article about the waltz, Lindy Hop and other forms of "uncivilized" dance:

The word jitterbug was "the term black dancers used to refer to whites who were less than adept at this dance form."
