Jordanian king pulls a Princess Jasmine. According to the report, King Abdullah II occasionally dons a disguise and slips out of his palace to mingle with the plebes and check up on the efficiency of government offices. What a cool idea. I picture George W. disguising himself as a migrant farm worker and applying for welfare. Nah...the Bally loafers would probably give him away...

On a gender sensitive note, it should be called "pulls a Harun al-Rasheed".

A little backslap of Dubya in the night? He'd be too easy to spot if he hit town. He'd be at the bar. At the end of the bar, the pointy-booted, bleary-eyed one playing Bachman-Turner Overdrive on the juke box and trying to pick up the owner's wife with lines like "My wife don't underestimicate me."

Actually, the idea of Dubya strolling among the troops like Henry V on the eve of Agincourt is pretty hilarious in and of itself.

Along the lines of dressing up (down?) and passing yourself off as a "common" person to see what it's like ... I just finished Nickle and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich and it was marvellous! In the book, Barbara ( a highly educated journalist) takes a series of low-paying (~ $7/hour) jobs and tries to find affordable housing in Minneapolis, Maine, and Key West. Highly recommended for anyone else who's interested in sociology/industrial psychology. =)
