A guy at work argues with me like this sometimes. I've already used the techniques of going, "Huh," and turning aside to scratch myself, but maybe I should see if I can snort spit directly through my nose.

LMAO!

is this from Spain? the guy's accent is kind of puerto rican although he could be from Canarias, sevillano or cordobés.

for those who want to know: you definitely want to be on the side of the goat. basically the guy's asking the goat a lot of politics related questions and each bleat works as an answer.

i LOLed hard when the guy asked, "Wassup with Zapatero?". it sounded like "wassup with Sabater?"; which is my last name and i was like WUT?

thanks for this. loved it.

oh and the title "Macho cabrío cabreado" is an awesome pun. It would be something like "a goaded goat" but it doesnt work so well because:

1. "macho cabrío" is used for the male goat but also the human douchebag :D

2. cabreado is "pissed off".

So the title works for describing both the guy and the goat :D

It doesn't sound Puerto Rican to me. Definitely has to be a Spanish island to be asking about Zapatero, no?

I figured Canarias. Wasn't he asking at one point about an official on the island? Maybe I misheard that.

Anyway, it was pretty funny, especially as at least once when it snorts a "political opinion" he says, "Yeah, that's what I think."

there's a really big PR community in Spain. also, most of our our accents (we have about 5 distinct regional accents in the island) have been correlated to the south of Spain although Galicia, Catalunya and Canarias also account for some of the regional differences in the island. Ireland and Italy, believe it or not, are another linguistic influences.

It's funny because he keeps bothering the obviously-agitated confined animal.

Next: using a stick to keep poking a bunny in a cage.

I have no idea why people are accusing this of being cruel. It's a goat that is perfectly capable of leaving at any moment (as demonstrated later in the video). It's just hating the guy with a passion. Honestly, I don't see the cruelty beyond any other basic 'animals being in a video in an enclosure' perspective.

But hey, I also don't see why it is that funny. If you have to be Spanish to get it, I'm not sure mefi is the ideal/target audience.

The poking crosses a line for me, but not so much cruel as asshattery. Animals in a zoo = ¡NO TOQUE!
posted by ROU_Xenophobe at 8:57 AM on July 22, 2010

Yeah, animal cruelty via boredom through human politics or something? This is absolutely hilarious. It's not like the animal isn't free to scream and spit at him. Whenever I poke bunnies with sticks they never scream and spit at me =(

I think the ibex is on the side of anyone who feeds him (much like a typical politician). That's why he stays near this annoying guy who keeps pointing and talking aggressively: the hope of a tasty handout when the lecture is over. He's bleating with frustration because no payoff appears to be forthcoming.

posted by codacorolla at 4:23 PM on July 22, 2010

I don't understand this. I don't understand how some of you are watching a video of a guy jabbing a caged animal until it's agitated and upset, and then being, "It could just walk away if it wanted LOL!" It's a goddamn goat. It's not thinking, "Oh, come on, Carl, don't let him provoke you. You should just walk away. Remember what your mom said about bullies." It's having a hostile reaction to someone invading its territory (by jabbing it, no less), and is trying to defend that territory by posturing. HILARIOUS LOLZ.
posted by neuromodulator at 5:45 PM on July 22, 2010

"...jabbing a caged animal"? Come on, talk about total over-reaction. He taps it on the top of the neck. Much the same way as you'd tap someone to attract their attention. In other words, about 10 times (at least) more gentle than the vet would be when just examining it to give it a check up.

It's hardly 'cruelty' to tap an animal. Especially one so damned tough as a goat. They're not that delicate, and it can get away from this 'torment' if it so chose to. It chooses to be aggressive because it is pissed, not because it is in any way scared or traumatised. It'd run if it was scared - that's instinctive, not some higher thought-exclusive reaction.

Once you discount the fact that it's in a cage (it's at a zoo - that's kind of a given in terms of this video and a separate issue to this cruelty argument) there's really nothing there to have people so hysterical and OMGZCRUEL about. Yes, it's annoying and obnoxious what the guy is doing - bothering animals is not acceptable behaviour, no-one is arguing anything else - but to instantly flip straight over to cruel is knee jerk at best.
