She looks innocuous enough with that blouse and suburmom hair, but you have to have one fucking ferocious soul to wrestle a goddamn bobcat into a jacket like that.
posted by carsonb at 9:54 AM on August 13, 2010 [1 favorite]

I wonder if the cats asleep in those pictures are dreaming of being people sized and of their owners being cat sized, and what outfits they'd then dress their people in?
posted by Windigo at 9:55 AM on August 13, 2010

I prefer to think the bobcat chose the leather jacket.

Or rather, the jacket chose him.

These people should not be allowed to have cats. If you want to dress your animal in a foolish costume, you should be forced to own a dog. That's what dogs are for. Cats are far too dignified for such nonsense.

Some cats like to dress up. Occasionally my orange cat will dress up as my gray cat. I've never actually seen him change into or out of the costume, but suddenly the gray cat will act like the orange cat - it's pretty obvious what's going on. The costume is stunningly good - it looks exactly like my orange cat - including the extra few pounds and leg length.

Our cat (someone found this photo on my blog and LOLcatted it) prefers a more casual look.

This is some kind of new height in cat humiliation.

Also: Hairless cats are an abomination and should be destroyed.

i don't believe it's anthropomorphic to ascribe fury to these poor kittehs, as they have the same expressions as wet cats. And all us cat contemporaries know that is some genuine fury there
posted by Redhush at 10:38 AM on August 13, 2010

My cats would SO not be down with this. I've dressed them up in bow ties and feather boas but that's as far as I felt I could go (before my eyes would get clawed out).

Our big guy knows how handsome he looks in his Christmas neckwear with the fur and bells. He seems to enjoy strutting around in it.

But this? Oh no, up with this he would not put.

These cats have been robbed of their dignity, and I am a very, very bad person for finding it hilarious.

Generally, I feel that animals should not be dressed in costumes, except for pugs who should always be wearing fezzes.

All of these people are going to hell.

Dressed as Cats cast members. With demons pinching their cheeks and going "squee!"

Cats do not enjoy this shit. At all. People who do this need to understand that, and bloody well stop it. Your pet is not a fucking toy.

In My World, you are so not allowed to own a dog! Dogs may put up with costumes, but their people are still horrid.

Also, this post reminds me of the awful fate of the evil Persian in Cats & Dogs.

What's really funny is that the day I put that sweater on Spike, he was just "eh, whatever." He was a bottle baby, he thinks everything is fun and humans are fantastic. He's a little weirdo, and we love him very much.

Also, I agree with you, JoanArkham. All pugs should wear fezzes.

I am stunned by how good this cat looks. S/he's kind of like a steampunk Amy Winehouse Hugh Hefner. Separately, I think none of those three things looks very good, but mix them together, and add an irate hairless cat, and you've got pure gold.

i pretty much love all kinds of animals, and i especially like cats. i like cats x4 inside (much to the chagrin of all 4 of them, who want to be #1) and i like cats x4 outside (poor homeless kitties!). my inside cats constantly want to be close to mama, and 3 of the 4 frequently sleep with me. but these dress-up cats ... these are some ugly, unhappy cats. : (

Did these cats lose their hair from the stress and humiliation, or were they shaved? I kept expecting to see a cat with a Brazilian.

Perhaps there were ... I couldn't finish the series.

Is it really only the costumes (and hairlessness) that bugs people? The posing strikes me as contributing to the awfulness of this.

A friend of mine is obsessed with hairless cats and I went with him once to look at some at a weird woman's house in the suburbs of Las Vegas. Truly a surreal experience. The strangest thing to me about those cats is how hot they are. They're like little furnaces - I couldn't have one of those things sleeping next to me in the summer, freaky appearance aside. Their skin is also tacky. I blows my mind that someone would actually prefer a tacky, hot, furless alien-looking thing over this. I mean, come on.

My husband once put our cat in a giraffe costume. He had the same expression on his furry little face as the cats did in these photos. Once the costume was off, he promptly made his way to my husband's sock drawer, where he managed to get it open and then pee all over hubby's clean socks.

I have a feeling a lot of these owners will be buying a lot of new socks in the near future.
