"The idea behind this game was to push how large of a single Movieclip I could make each level, and in the process pay tribute to my absolute favourite game on the PS2, Shadow of the Colossus."

That is some elegant Flash. Thanks.

Seems strange to remake Colossus with such a videogamey plot. Unless the bit of plot after the first level is intentionally misleading.

That thing is one like jumping puzzle nightmare. Bleh.

GilloD: I thought it was absurdly forgiving.

Agreed, aubilenon: I only whizzed through the first level before work but it rather lacked challenge.

The thing is, climbing a giant creature in order to slay it is a wonderful idea, but it's been done so elegantly already that all I really get from this game is a desire to play Colossus again (although I'm waiting for the inevitable PS3 re-release with 720p and a framerate).

I have no idea if it's an impressive technical achievement or not; if so, my hat is off. And I kinda hate to rag on anyone's creativity, but if you invoke one of the modern masterpieces of videogaming you kind of invite it.

I liked it - not so Colossus-ish, but very Black Tiger-ish.

Inevitable, you say? Between that and Marvel vs. Capcom 3, it sounds like I pretty much have no choice but to get a PS3.

I wouldn't bet my life on it or anything, but it's looking increasingly likely. Especially after the God of War series and those daft cat/spy games got updated. And double especially since it's basically free repeat custom for Sony; I know we'll be buying it, despite owning both Ico and Colossus on the PS2.

Is this REAL? Don't tease me, it's cruel.

In conclusion I learn once again that I need to a) hit preview when I've camped on a page for a while and b) read the whole thread.

Or you could play it right now in 1080p or better using PCSX2.

Do you have PCSX2 running at a decent framerate, straight? If so, what are your specs?

If they re-release Ico as well, I will buy a PS3. I've always said that I'd never buy a PS3 just to play the one or two games that it has that I want, but Ico and SotC would tip that balance.

I don't own a copy of Shadow of Colossus yet (emulation doesn't have to mean piracy) so I haven't tried it, but I can run Ico full speed on a AMD64X2 5600+, 8800GT, and 2GB RAM.

I see the video I linked doesn't specify, but if you search YouTube, most PCSX2 videos will list the user's system specs.

I think the biggest bunx is the lack of scale. The giant monster from the first level has no sense of scale, so it feels like a flat, uninteresting, generic flash platformer. Also, is it just me, or does this game feel sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow? I didn't finish the first level, even after the nice opening, because it made me want to play Shadow of the Colossus and not a generic flash platformer.

Although a HD Ico or SotC re-release would be sweet, I'm planning on buying a PS3 when Team ICO releases their new game, The Last Guardian.

My cheapo Core 2 (overclocked, but still cheapo) choked on Colossus the last time I tried, and didn't display everything correctly anyway. It gave me sadface. Annoying because it can cope with Wii games at full speed. Bloody Sony crazy bloody architecture mutter mutter mutter

The Last Guardian has a giant kitty/puppy/bird!

I can't wait.

The PS3 is so my favourite console of this gen; and I didn't picture myself ever saying that back in 2007.

I'll be standing in line at midnight for The Last Guardian, if that's what it takes.

ALSO: there's no girl in Last Guardian so will avoid this problem, discussed here by Ashley Birch. Also warning ads on that link.
